Today when I was running my 2.4km, heard this scream and then saw this guy literally fall down from the top floor of a flat opposite my school. Immediately told my teacher but he don't believe me <_<. Now heard that his wife and 2 kids were found dead in their house. Such a tragic case....

Apologies for the typo I made.

The first line should be" Today when my friend was running...."

But still a very tragic case. Even 4 year old girl also not spared.

Was quite suprised to see crowds even at 6pm, 8 hrs after the incident.

I think thats a totally different issue, blueheaven. What the jumper did was perfectly legal. Besides, people will gamble and owe money, whether its Genting, local bookies, SIngapore Pools. The casino issue will not affect the situation much. At least the money stays within the local economic system and not absorbed by the Malaysian neighbours.

But I dont quite understand the man's need to draw his innocent kids and wife into the picture. He screwed up big time, hey thats his life. It was not his children's fault. How could he have imagined that life without him could not be possible? How egoistical could he get? Sure, life might be hard, but hey, the kids have a chance of success. They dont have to die if he cant make it. Not fair there.

I believe he did this under tremendous pressure and breakdown.

This was the story I heard:

A friend of this guy asked him to help buy 4D

This guy forgot and then the number opened as second price

Friend pesters him to pay compensation

He cannot pay and suffers breakdown

The ending you all should know.....

Actually, I agree with riot that the children are the most pitiful. The 4 yr old girl and 12 yr old boy could 1 day succeed in their careers and lead a peaceful life. Why did this guy have to do such a thing???

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

I thought it was shares?

the 4D scenario sounds very much like a certain Jack Neo movie......

But seriously, shares (and its less legal gambling brothers) are big boy games, with big boy risks. Dont play if you cant take the big boy pain. Gutless weaklings like me stay away and earn my money in more humble and tedious ways.

Totally aggree with U bro....anyway it was quoted that he didn't wanna tell his wife fearing a divorce.....I strongly believe that any good wife would stand by her man (& vice-versa) if his about to take a downfall...anyway...what he did (the share) was legal...I don see anything for him to be afraid of...unless he owes loanshark...but then again...its never the end....there's bound to be somebody or a source that can provide assistance.......I would rather turn to my company & seek help....loan interest free money from them to pay off my debt...

A definite...BBIIIGGGG......WWHHHHYYYYY.....!!!!!...he had to drag other family members into his suicide drama......especially innocents live that can't fend for themselves & actually turn to him for protection & safety.....

It is really very strange behaviour that the gambler will exhibit .......Gamblers are no difference from addicts.

i used to have a relative who was a PHD holder ... working in a renowned bank ....and later got himself into some big time gambling .... ... loanshark started to pestered him in his work place ... finally he resigned ... from the company ...

Dad paid off his debts and begin life afresh ...... later headed for Hong Kong and became mandarin translator in some law firm ...

2 - 3 years later picked up gambling again .... start borrowing money from my relatives in Hong Kong .... ended up in debt ... his dad drove him out of house when he returned ... ...

His mum later bought a HDB flat for him ...........next thing you know .. you commited suicide from an overdose of panadols . It came out in the papers too. Though this time, his kids and wife were not involved.

I believed the addiction droves them from desperation to despair to suicidal. I think Roidan is not wrong to says that there might be more if there is a casino. I am not against the idea of a casino as it brings revenue to the country. I believe if the government should do it with ample warnings sent out to the public and enough self-help organisation available on standby. If the person choses to gamble - he or she will find some means to do it.

I beg to differ..... casinos are definitely a big no-no.....

I am against the idea of a casino in Singapore... and I believe we don't need one to sustain our economy...

Tell me which country has ever successfully integrate a casino and yet maintain its social integrity? Macau? Las Vegas?

My uncle himself was earning a good $8k or so salary until he was introduced to gambling. At first, yeah, he went in for the mere fun of it... and in the end, he siphoned company funds to feed his gambing habits.... Good thing his boss pardoned him but now he ended up as a bankrupt.... and yes, a divorcee as well....

Heard the government is considering limiting the casino entry only to those in the upper class society or those rich and well to do... I don't think it will really work... look at my uncle.. or even surfedelic's relative who has a PHD and at the prime of their career...

Being smart or educated or rich doesn't make you more immune to the dangers of gambling...

Actually - without the casino built. There are already alot of floating casino around .... If you ever join cruise to no where stuff .. they have already in built that into the cruise. That's what exactly what my relative did - he hop into one of these cruises. Though there is not much publicity.
