Erm.. You can get them at any Marine LFS or PetMa#t. It may be cheaper at PetMa#t. I'm not too sure about the difference. I think the difference is the purity of the salt...? Whether it has other contaminates or not? I think someone else would ans that..:)

Yeah, there are many different brands available, and prices varies, because of the trace elements it contain which is one of the factor.

for me I always buy as much as I can( to carry and afford) one shot to enjoy the bulk discount, as the difference make with that is probably more than the different in brands.

Is it...?

hmm... i used to use marinemix(not very common brand).

Then i change to redsea...it's cheaper and compare to the previous brand, it dissolves much faster.

So far, my tank is still doing fine :D

Maybe compared to the rest, redsea will not fare as well.

I'm not too sure abt that.

Perhaps other user can advise? :D

Hi all

The quest for the so-called best salt mix is a long and ardious task

simply because there are too many variables beyond man's control.

reefs.org were very close to conducting a comprehensive test of the

trace elements of various salt. it was put off due to objectivity reasons.

all aquarium salt should be fine long as its not table.

I find the S-15 report a joke. Marine environ & gang are just as good as

what we have in the mkt now.

Hmmm it seems like there are always opposing and supporting views regarding almost EVERY aspect of reef-keeping, from salts to NSW to changing/not changing water, lighting, skimming....it really makes the hobby very interesting yet mind-boggling, doesnt it???!?!!?!?:blink:

Oh well, since this thread is one salt mixes, just like to ask u guys something - I got 2 small boxes of Instant Ocean salt mix, of which have been sitting there for at least half a year (havent used them cause i changed to using natural seawater).

The contents are now slightly clumped up, and i can even see a few small water droplets inside the package...does this mean the salt has started to react with its surrounding moisture? Are they still good for use?

Thanx

bro IMO, i think that salt is good to be used for quite a long time... you see salt in the sea are being recycled 24hrs a day... water gets evaporated but salt does't it stays in and "fresh" water from the rain mixes it and the cycles continues... same like the salt you have it's probably evaporated as well... now a few droplets of vapour should't be that bad rite? well of coz this is just my opinion! seniors correct me if i'm wrong...
