Acropora....

Hi Reefers,

Been alot of talk recently about these deep water acros ...

Heard they are obtained from below 20ft and would therefore require less lightings......

Refer to this thread from RC...

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=226777

and this

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=233161

Am curious as I might have acquired 2 specimens of such and they are definitely not sitting in a position suitable for deep water acroporas...... B)

Any comments....

I've already moved on of my colony down to the sand bed. Hopefully it will return it's weird grey colour.

This piece. It looks mostly greyish from the side.

20ft is not deep water........in fact it is about the depth that you find almost all of the acros.

Deep water would be those that are found at 15m or about 45ft or more. It also depend on the clarity of the water as it vary with location.

If go diving or snorkelling then you will know what I mean.

Maybe 20 metres down instead of ft ...... :eyebrow:

Reefers from RC are stating the placement of such either on the sandbed on deep reefs or partially beneath other corals......

Tanzy

I think i have something similar. Its about 12 inches down, too one side of 250W MH. Its blue under T5's Nava blue and a light purple/pink under MH.

Never seen any polyp extension and it seems to be a very slow grower.

Sounds exactly the same. My colony is slowly being overtaken by sponges from the bottom up.
