Hi I'm new here..... just need to clarify some doubt and advise from all of you.

Recently I've just setup a new 3ft marine tank and I'm still in the water cycling period. I realised that some of the kind of mould (white patches) had develop on the live rock.

Is it normal????

The white patches are those die-offs, you need not worry about them. Do read up the pinned up articles in this particular section. Happy reading and reefing ..

Another doubts..... during the water cycling and LR die off period(decompose). Will the water give off a bad smell???? Actually I realise the water in my tank smell weird.

Bad smell are caused by high die-offs. It will be advisable if you can add in an addtional powerhead to circulate the water. This will improve the cycling and your tank should not smell that bad after a while. Partial water changes only if you can't tolerate the smell anymore. Try putting up with it, if you can.

How about putting up a FAQ tread?

I noted the following 3 "hot problems" recently :

1) Smelly tank during cycling period

2) White patches on LR during cycling period

3) Diatom bloom
