hi all,

Sometime ago I bought some micro algae from a lfs. I realise there are couple of Aiptasia Anemone come with the Micro algae. at that time I wasn't know that was harmful pest until recently i read a article abt this. Initially it was in my sump and recently I think it pass thru the filter and now reside in my main tank. seems like getting more. Is this really unwanted pest in marinte tank? any problem with that or how can we get rid of this?

Thanks

Natural Means

1. Copperband butterfly (fares badly in captive conditions)

2. Peppermint shrimp

3. Racoon butterfly (I think)

4. Some hermit crabs might get to them, but not assuredly

====

Mechanical Means

1. Squirt boiling water

2. Squirt concentrated Kalk

3. Use Joe's Juice.

4. Throw away infested live rock

=====

Above 2 methods are reactionary. Best to look at the cause of the Aiptasia bloom. They thrive in nutrient-rich water. Look at feeding, stocking, skimming and filtration levels.

Hi,

I know it is not a recommended method.

Someone sells me 40Kg of live rock infested with Aiptasia (I wasn't aware of such pest at the time, novice mah).

Go NTUC, bought their bleach, target drip it on all areas where Aiptasia was and quarantine the live rocks for a week. Repeat the process with another batch of rocks until all of them are gone.

Takes me 1 month, spent $2.

some coraline alage are dead, after a year they are all red again.

:rolleyes:

Hi ah_d3x,

Yes, the peppermint is one of the few LS proven to rid Aiptasia Anemone.

Super efficient! Plus the fact that it is truly reef-safe thus whenever it's availbale in Singapore you will find they will be selling like hot cakes. ;)

Placed one peppermint in my main tank and within 4 days, all aiptasia are gone. Initially wanted to transfer it to the sump to kill off the reminding pest... but decided against it as I figured that it will deprive the shrimp of any food once the aiptasia are gone.

IMO, natural and best way to combat aiptasia. Really regretted wasting money on TM's elimi-aiptasia...though it works but messy and hard to get the small aiptasia once it shrivelled.
