MM, you cannot let the MG level drop below 1100 or you will have issues with unsustainable KH levels no more how much kh powder thingies you add. Try to maintain it at least at the 1200 level. This is form my personal experienced of course and not scientific in anyway!

my personal experience is the same as that of bro alpha

last month, my mg dropped to 700ppm because i've not checked for months

at 700ppm, the kh fell extremely fast, from 10 to 6 in just one week as opposed to the normal 10 to 8 for my tank so i can say that allowing mg to be around 800ppm is definitely not good

as i boosted the Mg, i discovered that once the Mg reaches about 1100ppm, kh no longer drops fast.

if you're gonna allow Mg to drop to 200ppm only, MM, i think your tank will crash because kh will drop and that'll cause ph fluctuations

Same experience as above. I was previously unable to maintain Ca and dKH due to low Mg.

Thx for ur tots, I'm now, super curious about the Mg levels in the tank too... in the absence of a kit, this will jus all be theory.... it is just that from reading, Mg sinks about 1 - 2 %, it is a small amt comparative to the takeup of Ca and carbonates for calcification and even in the prevention of precipitation, only a small amt is used. The reef adv calcium, I use to daily dose already has some Mg in them. I do see growth in the SPSs, esp for the green ones, and I also see C. algae appearing on the glass walls & LRs. these to me are visual signs that, Mg levels are sufficiently available though at what exact levels I don't know.

Truly sincerely appreciative...you hv jus taken away the peace of mind I been having all this while about my Mg levels... don't think I can wait till the WE for a test now.
