my tanker doesnt have the above silicon which i plan to use for my new tank. he say if i intend to use it, i'll have to supply him with it. otherwise he'll substitute it with a wacker brand silicon.

does anyone know where i can get the DC795 and roughly how much is it. i need to supply him with 6-8tubes..

trust U have read the whole thread and got the info

http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=25524

one of the discussion brought up:

"we shld be concerned, as we wld hv liked to hv our tanks build to last. and FYI, some tank makers ard dun utilise specifically DC 795 by default as it is expensive, long curing duration (21 days) and most of them hv the thinking that DC 795 r not meant for prolonged underwater purposes (which is technically correct).

but if u dun use silicone sealant, r there any other alternatives to safely bind glass together to make a tank? if anyone has, pls share. i m sure all will like to know. IMHO, at least for now, DC 795 shld be the best alternative.

as far as the reply from DC is concerned, no DC silicone sealant is recommended for prolonged underwater applications."

Rocky,

ASk you tank maker to use the Wacker silicon. Avoid 795 as it is not reliable for tanks and is highly dependent on how it is applied. My 795 gave way and nearly caused a disaster in my house.

Wacker is probably on par with DC silicon for tank use.

thanks your advice, DB and Robe. all i need is black silicon actually. any other brand can do the job. tank maker said Wacker will cos me only abt 50dollars.

i thought of using DC cos it seems like many reefers here and in RC are using it and wrote good comments in their tank thread. however, there are bros whose tank had leaked also seemed to have used it. i'm so confused......

:thanks:
