Siliconing glass..

i ever research into this before though i have not excecuted the idea yet.

I see in tank the ends of each glass piece dun meet but are bond together by the silicone at very thin layer; 1 mm like that. So i assume it was important to get a correct measurement of the internal space for the divider but dun quite trust the measuring tape for the task. more like a vernier caliper's job.

Also, saw on a DIY thread(forgot the URL) that the gap for water to flow thru are common at 1 inch.

I also suggest you plan to have two smaller partition for wat ever filter media and for your skimmer and a large partition should you fancy a refugium in future.

have you calculated the extra height in case some water from display gets down to sump when something fails?

It's better to apply a thin layer on the glass edges to be joint. The size of partition depend on the size of the filter wool that had been precut you usually use, unless you use the uncut filter wool where you can cut into size taht fit to your partition column. You may put as many partition depending the sump tank size.
