Felix Wong
Hi, Anybody had problem with Flame Angel nipping or eating corals? I understand it is reef safe but read in Live Aquaria that it is prone to nib both stony & soft corals. Want to hear your experiences before buying one. Thanks. lightningstrike
flame angel is not reef safe. IMHO, as long as it is an angel, it is not reef safe. no matter how "coral-friendly" the webbies claim them to be. juz me 2 cents. Felix Wong
Thanks Lightning Strike, I agree with you that it's risk taking to keep angels with corals. Anyone had success keeping Flame Angels with corals?
SRC Member gothia Posted February 18, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 18, 2005 i dun think any angel is suitable to keep with corals...doubt there will be any success rate.. the only very good success i see is henry's moorish idol tank

roidan
they will always tell u....add dwarf angels with caution.... tangs are generally reef safe right? but u see some tangs hammering corals also so do everything at your own risk....weigh your consequences Quote Advanced Aquarist (March05)
Felix Wong
Thanks Gothia Godzilla, I saw the pictures of Flame Angels in your reef tank. Looks great! Guess you did not have any problem with this particular angel? Any comment? Felix
Godzilla
i think its a risk for anyone to add a angel into their reef tank, u have to decide for yourself if its worth the risk personally, i just luv tat fish so, in it went i have seen tat fella nipping on corals while grazing among the live rocks but glad to say tat there have been no damage done so far..(crossing fingers) btw, there are many reefers here who also have angels in their tanks, some are sucessful some are not, so its your decision to make.. SRC Member AquaRa Posted February 19, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 19, 2005 it really depends on your luck. some fish just can't seem to resist the temptation of corals.
SRC Member Rocky99 Posted February 19, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 19, 2005 hi, i recently acquired a FA in my tank. heard from fellow reefers that risks of it disturbing my corals are quite high. so what i did was to keep it my my beta box for 2 wks until it feeds comfortably on pellets b4 i let it out. so far it's ok, only that most of the time it pecks on the algae on the rocks and glass. my corals and a big clam are ok. keep my fingers crossed. i also make sure that every time i feed the fishes, the FA gets a fair share. otherwise it may turn desperate for food and turn to my corals. juz my 2 cts. gdluck

acroporidae
my koran growing fatter by the day. i see my kole tang nibbing more than te koran. i think u must feed it so it does not go looking around for food. but sometimes i do see them nip at my big clam. Dispar_Anthias
I guess everything depends on luck.. most fo the time angel do not actually feed on the coral itself... but mainly the mucus produce by the coral is the one eaten by the angels... But this is enough to stress the coral till it strink to death

SRC Member jackal Posted March 2, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted March 2, 2005 I had my Flame for nine months. Never has she disturb my corals. As a matter of fact, she is a very well behave fish....I feed my fishes twice with pallette and once with frozen brine shrimp in a day. Fishes are like human, if you bring home a women who eats alot, she will attack anything edible in your home....including your fav snacks. It all boils down to luck. I have Yellow & Blue Tank too, they are a darling. Friends told me my fishes look very healthy and happy....only my Maroon Clown like to once in along while like to surprise my Percular Clown. If the Flame bother you, catch it and release it back to the wild...like waters in Labrador Park.
