How to see whether Prata is dying?

Hi,

Just wondering is my Prata dying as it's color changed from brown to white and some skeleton protrude out. I think my emperor angel was nipping as it. I guess it will up lorry very soon, rite?

mine got skeleton liaoz but sumtimes e flesh with still expand n contract only a little bit

i also duno its dead liaoz or not..

hope any kind reefers out there can advise?

The whitening is probably bleaching.... if the coral keeps receding.. u can kiss it goodbye liao...

there has been report that reefers manage to save bleaching corals..... However, for your case, if you want to save it u have to remove the cause first in order to think of else.

i think u mean dipping it in lugol solution will not solve e cause of e prob?

there is no connection between lugol's solution and bleaching corals.

what i mean was tiny shrimp like creatures tht can be remove by lugol solution could hav cus tht bleahing unknowningly ....

nope... bleaching occurs when the algea tat is present in the coral starts to die off , its the algea tat give the coral its colour..

Yes... bleaching corals can be saved.... but it takes time and hopefully it's not 100% bleached...

Anyway... try feeding it with little pieces of prawn meat...

even if it recovers your angel will kill it. I had bad exp even with pygmy angels and pratas. My rule of thumb is no angels if you're keeping pratas. Especially nice pratas.

I agree, but not all angel like prata!!

my rule of thumb is if you spot such corals with skeleton protruding out, don't buy

but if you did, not to worry because i've got friends who buy such specimens and with proper care, they recover

but when i say proper care, it means ALOT of time spent on the coral

When I first bought the Prata, it's OK. Only recently when my emperor angel start to disturb it and it's skeleton protruded out with black color, however the flesh still around,so I hope it will survive.
