Hi bros,

I would like to find out if anyone here has come up with a cooling device using a refrigerator or air-con. I read somewhere it's possible to come up with a cooling device using the cooling coils of the fridge. Apparently it should be sprayed with a plastic spray then can be dipped into the sump. Efficiency of the cooling coils will be slightly reduced but I think the cooling effect should still be there.

I'm planning on trying something like that...I tried using those smaller cooling/ heating fridge which work on the peltier effect but the fridge I bought was too small for a tank my current tank size. It shd be useful for a nano tank though. The fridge I've disposed but I have the parts to experiment with.

Any bros with any ideas aside from the usual way of placing a hose through a sealed fridge and running water through ?

Let's brainstorm :)

Cheers

Archer

I would suggest you get a small form box with cover cos they have better insulation. cut two holes at the upper part of the side panel where you want the water lever to be. one hole runs an inlet pipe connected to a dedicated small powerhead and the other hole will be the overflow for outlet.

Put the entire box into the sump tank if you can have a space.

that way, you wont need to ensure a watertight closure and also with a dedicated powerhead you can run the flow at a controlled pace than the flow in the sump cos with DIY chiller, it wont be as efficiently as a dedicated instrument and thus you need a slower flow pace to allow sufficient colling
