my two longnose hawkfish are always losing out to the other fishes when it comes to feeding. :( they have been with me for about two weeks.

other fishes will wallop the frozen brine shrimps and mysis and even chopped-up pieces of prawns.

but the hawkfishes only manage to get one or at most two pieces of food. now both of them are paper thin. :cry2: afraid they will die of starvation. :(

any help or comments will be much appreciated. :thanks::thanks:

Who are their tank mates? Sometimes, certain fish just cannot survive with the more aggressive feeding tankmates. A good example is keeping seahorse, mandain with all sorts of tangs. If your situation is as said, then it is either you give up the more aggressive feeding tankmates or the longnose hawkfish.......

my 2 cents......

:) Greeting :)

Tank: 4' by 2' by 2' (CR antique)

Sump: 3' include 1' refuigm

I have a longnose hawkfish for more than 2 years, they are a bit clumsy and shortsighted and sometimes tends to missed the food target even the food is in front of them.

What I do is I used chopped prawns mixed with vitamins, cyclopeeze etc, and use place it in front of the return pump or pump so that the food is blown all over the tank and all fishes, shy or aggressive have a chance including the hawk. This fishes only eats frozen food or dried krill or similar but not flake or pellet food.

Hawkfishes are hunters by nature. They prey on small fishes or moving inverterbrates like shrimps. If you want to 'fatten them up' you may try put in some live shrimps.
