nah.....tangs will not be able to get rid of long hair aglae....they mouth is not design for this....however, the foxface and rabbitfishes specices do that quite well....just that they are not as nice looking as the tangs and more agressive against each others as compared to the tangs....

Dun know if it is a good idea to remove it. As these Hairy Algae will compete with micro-algae for nutrients. Keep Diatom etc in check. Better to have hairy algae than diatom.

These are macro-algae. Alway easy to remove by adding 2 cabbage slug, all gone in days, after that slugs starve...

Hi

what is your PO4 & NO3 reading?

need to keep them in balance (according to RedField chart)

npratiotabel_eng.gif

read more about it at http://www.xs4all.nl/~buddendo/aquarium/redfield_eng.htm

hair algae indicates that ur PO4 & NO3 reading may be around the green region of the chart

Ive tested long spined urchin & trochus snails against HA .. they'll consume it readily .. and both r commonly available in Singapore ...

both are pretty safe for reef tank, unless of coz u're trying to maintain macroalgae .. which the urchin will take readily as well..

WOW...this is such dated post!!!

argh.. cowbox .. why did u reply?? hehe

got misled..heh
