micyong
Pls buy a bottle of liquid for calibration only $5.00 for ph 7.0 I have this problem b4.
SRC Member Reefbum Posted February 17, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 17, 2005 Don't need to decrease pH by chemicals unless super high(greater than 9.0).It will naturally reduce by itself unless you input too much buffer.
SRC Member huanjie Posted February 18, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 18, 2005 The time you measure pH is also very important, as it fluctuate throughout the cycle... if 8.5 is measured near the end of your light cycle, then its probably not so much of a concern, but if 8.5 is measured before your lighting start, by the time your light turns on long enough, your pH might be too high..... Try to meaure the pH before and after the light goes on to get a complete picture of PH of your tank.... Agree with Reef Bum that don't need to add anything to decrease it, just stop adding anything that can increase it to let it falls naturally... Oh and calibration is important.... my two cents... bloodlamb
hi, My pH was 8.0 in the morning and 8.5 at night before lights off. Is the swing it too wide? My KH seems rather low too at 1.8 meg/l. Should I increase KH?
SRC Member huanjie Posted March 16, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted March 16, 2005 0.5 swing sounds like alot to me... high KH reduce swing, you can consider... my two cents.
Achilles Tang
8.5 is on the high end but not entirely unusual or harmful. Daily PH swings from 7.9 to 8.5 are quite normal for my tank. Optimally, it stays stable at 8.3 throughout but its not possible due to the use of a CA reactor and normal photosynthetic activities during the day cycle.
