Hi,

recently just started to picked up this hobby and try to understand and learn how to maintain a most suitable water condition before I start to import the fishes into my 2ft tank.

My fren has advise me to control the Nitrite, Nitrate, pH and Ammonium level of the water and has to wait for the cycling process to finish which will take abt 1 month time. However, I have increased the process which I used cured LR instead of the LR selling in the fish farm. I guess this will reduce the process of cycling... So I intend to put in the nice and beautiful fishes into my tank ard 1 1/2 week which is next weekend. Pls advise....

I would like to understand more on the respective NO2, NO3, pH and Ammonium level. Any expert out there who can tell me the correct figure and where can I get these water test kits? Petmart? I heard it only re-open on the 17th Feb. which is nest Thurs. But I am too eager to test the water now............

If u guys are kind enough to share with me your precious experiences and way of controlling the respective substances.....

I have read story on using Sugar to increase bacteria thus to reduce Nitrate level.

Ammonium --> Nitrite --> Nitrate --> Nitrogen.

However, which one is more important and which one is good for anything?

1) Ammonium break down by bacteria into Nitrite.

2) using de-nitrator (Bioballs) to reduce the level of Nitrate??

3) So Nitrogen is bad rite?

May I know what else need to control b4 I start to import fishes into my tank? :P

IMHO, If you are using s-called cured LR, it is still best to wait for at least 1 month before u start stocking very very slowly. This will let the tank stabilise and cope with the added bioload as u very very slowly introduce fishes. Max is 1 fish per week..

Ignore it and u face the prospects of dieing LS in your tank which is definately not desirable.

can check out a few recent threads regarding the cycle process....

dun really wish to repeat somethings....

best is still wait one month of cycling with nothing else in the tank... let yr pod population grow... and more importantly the bacteria on the LR....

i am now enjoying the fruits of a well-cycled system.....

had not been stocking at my tank for about a year.... due to early mistakes.... now im sure my tank can handle almost anything i throw into it....

;) Thanks and I have tried to read all the thread in this forum.... No prob.. I will wait for 1 month or so to stabilise the water condition 1st.

However, I intend to clean the rock as it look like getting dirty.... haha... Think is the bacteria start to grow... Anyway, thanks for all u guys advises....

During this period of cycling process... I have included all my LR and turn on the sump tank to circulate the water. Hope this will help in the cycling process... :)

no corals n fishes during cycling!

n u must add stg to start the cycling, like half a market prawn so that bacterias can start acting on it...

during cycling, u will hav ammonia peak folowed by nitrite peak...

the tank is ready only after both of these become 0....

pls do read up those hyperlinks other bros hav posted for u!
