MH set too heavy to stand on tank

Just bought a 3ft MH set from a fellow reefer but i find that its too heavy to stand on my 6mm thick tank... Anyone expert here tried to modify the set by replacing the ballast with a external one? can give some advise on how to lighten the weight of the set? Thanks a lot!

By the way, drilling 2 holes in my ceiling will be my last resort!!

U can rewire the light set. But u must make sure don't wire wrongly else KA BOOM!

U can safely place the ballast/ igniter / capacitor on a seperate mounting board AWAY from any water source or splashes. and AWAY from kids and itchy hands

Yeah I took my ballast out from the set too... now much lighter..

Can do a search I think.. posted it in the DIY forum quite some time ago.. like 1 or 2 yrs ago..

take out the ballast for the FL frist...maybe replace with T5 eballast....these are the easiest to replace.....you will find it reduce by roughly 2-3kg......if still too heavy then remove the ballast for the MH....quite easy to do.....for me, i mark each wire with markers of different colors before taking out the ballast and reconnecting the wires....
