SRC Member andysho Posted February 7, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 7, 2005 i wonder wat is the average turnover flowrate for sps keepers here? The average of a sps tank at least have to be 20 or 30 times the water volume of the tank~ correct me if i am wrong mine is 200 litres tank ... turnover rate is around 10000 litres

SRC Member scarab Posted February 8, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 8, 2005 It not always the turnover rate is important. It's important yes for filtration purpose so that sufficient flowrate goes thru your skimmer, etc.... but it's the amount of random flow within your tank that plays a great deal more to your SPS. DeepBlue
IM-Exp.......Strong current doesnt mean healthy sps.....the current got to reach them... My acros in the old tank still exp stn prob when the current dun reach the base of the acros....(partially blocked off by acros/corals infront) I have more than once created mini dead spots with closely packed acros with insufficient provision of current to reach them. (I was using 2 6060 tunze pumps + 3 other power heads)
SRC Member AlfaRomeo Posted February 8, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 8, 2005 38X in my case. With the vast majority from the 3 x 6100s pulsing from 50% to 100%. Turnover rate to my sump is purely meant for the chiller loop and skimmer to constantly process dirty incoming tank water. Waiting for the 6200 to arrive! SRC Member Bandit Posted February 8, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 8, 2005 1000 litre tank, running two Oceans Motions 4 ways each splitting to 8 outlets. 1 has 6 outlets on at any given time, the other 4. The closed loop return to 4 outlets at once, 6 mounted in the bottom pane of glass, 2 in the rear panel The return pumps run to a manifold across the top, into 8 outlets all with Oceans Motions revolutions fitted. Sequence pumps driving both closed loop and return, totalling up to about 40000 litres per hour after headlosses etc... so 40x tank turnover, with not a powerhead or pump in sight in the tank
