Is there any other kind of hose clamps that are not metallic... I really hate O-clamps...

But according to Mr Lim, securely tied large cable-ties do the same trick... u juz have to wrap it at the right place....

what's the size of your pipes? I may still have those german-made plastic ones that are also pleasant to the eyes and clamping tight too... :)

The problem I had....

Oceanfree 9000 was too tall and thus made it unable to rest flatly on all fours.... We were not able to extend the flexible hose any longer because it is already near the cabinet door....

What happened next was when we on the pump, the strong vibration caused the union above to loosen and leak...

Solution... We made a tough decision... and decided to redo the connection from the sump to the skimmer pump....

Initially tried putting some putty but it is not of use cause the vibration again cause it to loosen... we needed to find a solution so that....

1) The pump may rest nicely on all four and allow us to fasten it to the floor board...

2) Considered extend the piping but at the same time have to leave some space at the right for the tubby top up pail....

I then look at the return pump and did something crazy... took out a ruler and measured its dimension... and found out it fit nicely in the front area of the sump if used as a skimmer pump!!! Thus allowing us to extend the pipe... and yet, save space for the tubby top up pail on the right...

It was a costly decision... so we bought another MAK4 to use to run the skimmer...

We ditch the Oceanfree 9000 pump....:evil:

Some of the bros may feel that the vibration from the pump (being so close) to the sump is not a good idea... (Dangerous to the sump)... but yeah, we have a 5mm allowance between the skimmer pump and the sump... and we lined the space between with rubber pad and mounting tape as cushion...

And yeah, MAK4 dun really vibrate that violently... I tried the return pump and it works like a sleeping baby.... really a good pump...

So now my sump (at the moment) looks like this...

I switched off all pumps at the moment and drained out the inlet compartment part of the pump to allow the silicon to dry overnight.... (Lim redone the piping over there just for the MAK4)....

OMG super cute!... lol

You should throw in a scotch's yellow sponge with eyes drawn and of course the blue pants too to make it more realistic!

Are u referring to those metal hose clamps or O-rings?

Nope... not using them... using large cable-ties to secure....

Is there any other kind of hose clamps that are not metallic... I really hate O-clamps...

Yes I'm referring to the hose clamp, if it's not submerge in water. With cable ties maintenance is quite troublesome, need to cut and use new ones.

What size is your overflow PVC? 1" or 1.5"?

Thanks.

wat the??? put toys inside? will the color leech?

Aiyah.... never read my earlier thread ah... those are not normal plastic toys.... they are bought from US.... and is manufactured and made for aquarium use.... Totally aquarium safe.... Cost about US$10 each.... I ordered them through ebay.... They have mr crab, plankton and other stuff.... but I only bought these three which I think is good enough... otherwise "overkill" and my tank looks over kiddish...

Here's spongebob and patrick again for those who "missed" it.... patrick playing with bubbles and bob is catching jellies :D:lol:

But I am taking them out soon lah.... cycling now or else they will be coated with algae... Putting in again later... much much later when the tank matures...

Nah. I say start skimming right away. With your new Liverock plus extra prawns, more than enough material to cycle.

The liverock is actually bought second hand from terryansimon.... so it is really really cured for coming two years....

IS yours a new aquaC? If thats the case, you should really start skimming now. Takes a HECK of a long time to break it in before it generates foam. My brand new AquaC took me a month before it fully breaks in and I start to collect skimmate.

If the liverocks have always been moist (i.e. never totally dried during the transfer to your tank), then why do you still need the prawns? Save the prawns for frying pan -- not cycling tank. ;)
