Gouldian
You can try the Beckett skimmer, they are genrally more efficient for medium to big tank. Check out the Sponsors forum for good offers. SRC Member diabolus Posted January 30, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted January 30, 2005 wow sis... didn;t know you had such a big tank! for a 5 footer, i think even the macro AS350 is also underskimming. upgrade!!!upgrade!!!
RAV-65
A more effective skimmer would allow you to pull more DOC ( Dissolved Organic Compound ) from your tank's water b4 it breaks down into ammonia--->no2 ----->no3... A sure way of reducing the no3 in your water... Other methods include water changes, use of macro-algae, Az-N03, more liverocks etc etc... Do keep in mind not to overfeed the livestocks... For your tank size, unless u keep very little LS or feed very little, I tink the water volvume is too big for the macro to handle, unless of coz, if you have one of those 6 foot tall macros!! SRC Member diabolus Posted January 30, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted January 30, 2005 you should be facing less problems for a 5 footer compared to a 2 footer. maybe you can list down your problems and start a new thread. i'm sure you will get plenty of responses on how to solve them. Actually with a big tank, u dun encounter certain problems people with small tank has... Like parameters swinging drastically.... Quote People do not plan to fail; Often they just fail to plan... SRC Member riot Posted January 31, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted January 31, 2005 How high is your nitrates? If you are running fish only, might get away with that if you up your skimmer. The Beck is good for larger tank sizes. I think for the 5 footer, a H&S for that capacity will bankrupt you. Get a bigger/ better quality skimmer, do a massive water change, reduce feeding. Hope this helps

SRC Member riot Posted February 1, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 1, 2005 whoa thats fast. How are you running your beck? MD55 or a rio? The beck is a bit troublesome to plumb- the return should be higher than the sump if you run it external, or if internal make sure the sump is large enough. Is your cabinet high enough to put the beck inside?

SRC Member riot Posted February 1, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted February 1, 2005 You can plumb a pvc connector to your output and run a ribbed washing machine hose to your sump. That way, you dont have to be as exact as with PVC piping.
