have decided to switch to a MAC as have been finding it increasingly sickening to do my work on PC ( media design , mostly rendering takes a horribly long time ) . have heard from friends that its super fast and stable but when i went to check out all the specs . eg. a powermac g5 which i think is the latest model is only up to 2.5ghz . And that is the top end one . the normal spec one comes at 1.8ghz . Im currently using a pentium 4 3.2 with 1gb ram . i dont understand how it can be slower than a 1.8ghz mac because some of my friends claim these macs are more than twice as fast .

macs processors are of somewhatg different structure.... tis kinda technical detail... u go down to mac show ask better... i also not sure...

but wad i can tell u, bro, is that... once u use it... u dun even gif a @!$@#!%!#% damn how come it is like that... but u can just feel the difference... my only complain bout mac.. is that all the accessories... printers, scanners, webcam and others... u can use cheap cheap one already...

take webcam for instance... cheapest webcam Mac Compatible i found is 100 at least....

my printer and scanner are already mac compatible dun mind too much about webcam etc.

but what is the difference .. how come its different . i dont get it . why are macs so damn expensive and only 1.8ghz

and i still wonder how do u use a mouse with only 1 button effectively

u can ask for a demo....

but for most windows switchers.... they will still prefer to use a two-button mouse.... macs can also take 2 button mouse....

u pay macs for the design also i guess.....

can always go down to the shop to ask for demo.... they will be happy to show u....

if u goin down to orchard... apple at wheel lock... ask for douglas.... he is very thorough with the demo....

I am using a mac, basically the architecture and measurement of the processing speed is somewhat different from that of the PC. It is indeed very much more stable and from the time i use it about 2-3 years ago (when i switch from PC to mac) it did not crash or even hang on me !!! And i am using a G4 933 mhz (about 3 years ago).

Try it you will not regret it !!!

take note that Macs DO crash. juz v. v. seldom.

generally, Macs "speak" in a different language from PC thus the old myth that they do not "talk" to each other (ie compatibility problems). also, it is this unique language that Mac uses that makes it a more stable platform; not to mention there's practically no virus for macs.

if you are ONLY going to do graphics design, then get a mac... otherwise, i'll advise against it..

alternatively, u can upgrade your graphics card and ram.. having HDDs when higher RPM would also help..

sorry la im just very against a mac... mainly because i cannot modify the hardware... wanna upgrade, call them, pay $500 and they give u 40GB mroe space and 64MB ram..

seriously... its must more pleasant to work on a Mac than a PC... less crashes... more direct.... LESS virus too.... plus Mac OS X comes with pop-up blocker... good for surfing certain sites...

but nowadays.... its okay wad... RAM... can buy frm SLS... HD also... its yr normal PC drive... IBM, WD or Seagate... same wor...

i bought 2 GB RAM for my 1.5GHz G4 POwerbook... (power, eh??)

i was running virtual PC.. as certain goverment software... no Mac Support.. (lousy PSA....)..

oh yah... also my company xerox machine... dun have the postscript installed.... so i cant print on the xerox... bo pian... in the end... bought a low end PC...

but once my company upgrade the xerox machine... hiakz hiakz.... i am bring my mac back in...

you cannot compare a 1.8 P4 against a 1.8 Mac.

though the figures are similar/slower, they work/perform differently.

do a bit of rendering on massive files and you'll find out how much *or little rather* effort it takes. to date, I kinda miss my PowerMac G5.

if there is one downside about Macs is that they do heat up quite fast, mainly due to the design of its casing and cooling system. quite a well known thing, and well documented in all Mac User Forums.

not too sure about the Powerbooks and iBooks, but I know my PowerMac did heat up quite fast.

I heard the new G5 also has some problems with the combo drive, and that CDs/DVDs supposedly warped inside the combo drive.

G5 running on dual prosessors.

so dual prosessor means double the heat means need liquid cooler means faster cooling.... beautiful machine!

a friend of mine using this machine....cost him nearly $5000 and it only the system.... monitor,mouse,keyboard,speakers etc....sold seperately

BUT i hv tried it first hand and 1 word to discribe....POWER!
