like most corals they have zooxanthelae(spelling ?) and hence is photosynthesis, but light itself might not be enough to provides all the energy... so feeding (direct or indirect) is normally advised.

i have one for 2 yrs, and i give small pieces of shrimp occaionally to the coral. My experience is it would look greater having the shrimp! It should be relatively easy to keep, no worry.
