What brand of hydrometer are most of the reefer using? And which brand is good?

used to have that one...so so only...

the most accurate ones are refractometers...

followed by the glass hydrometers, which is cheaper than the common plastic ones most of the reefers used.

I and my friend both brought a hydrometer. I brought a coralife and he brought seatest hydrometer but from different place. And we measure the same water from the fish tank and we get different salinity level both hydrometer are brand new. Coralife=1.020, Seatest =1.022. Is it alot different. Which meter should i trust then?

Please think before you say...$20 over dollars maybe meant a little to rich guy like you...but meant alot for a student like mi.

for my experience, some hydrometers are not accurate. they give fasle readings.

wat i suggest is,

buy 2 or 3 of these "cheap ones" maybe of different brands. to see if its all giving the same readings of a specific water. to atleast show its accurate.

OR, get 1 only and try borrowing 1 or 2 from ur friends to compare with urs.

my advise is to 'calibrate' ur hydrometer with ur friendly lfs who uses a refractormeter

yah i followed what clownfish did. bought a coral life deep six from 'blue sign board' then take a reference using the shop's refractometer.

anyway, its a known fact that hydrometers are usually inaccurate.

if you want to be sure of your SG, then get a refractometer.

nobody says this hobby is cheap.
