I know that 1 cubic meter of water is 1000kg. That's for freshwater. So salt water is more heavy because of the salt and mineral content. For 6x2.5x2.5 with sump is around 1200L. So just salt water alone is already more than 1.2ton, but since LR and sand takes up the space of the saltwater, so I will assume 1.2ton is enough for the saltwater+LR.

I don't know how heavy is the tank. But it also depending on the thickness of the glass.

newmarine, if u r going to put this in hdb flat u better think again

if floor cracks and collapses u will lose right to stay in hdb flat for years to come

i suggest u sell this tank and get a 4x2x2.5 or 5x2x2.

both weigh about a tonne...don't joke about this kinda issue

You can submit your plan of your tank and where you plan to put it in your house. You will need to submit floorplan and tank specs including stand or cabinate.

Weight will depend very much on what you keep. how much sand and rocks you plan to put in. Estimate the water and all the stuff in the tank.

Your position in the house will be crucial. Is it on or next to a major support beam (better) or in the middle of the room (bad). The HDB will have a qualified person assess all and reply to you.

It's actually quite a painless thing to do. I had mine approved in about 2 weeks from submitting. Admittedly mine is a smaller tank than what you plan.

good luck

I got approval from HDB when I installed a 5 ft tank. My contractor says maximum is 6 ft, but it depends on the location.

I guess if HDB approves it, you may be not be liable should anything goes wrong!

But its safer that way.

HDB approves does not mean you ARE NOT liable if the floor collapsed.

Don't think will cause much problem. My 6.5x2.5x2.5 ft tank have been standing for almost 2 yrs. Below it is a 4x2x2 ft sump with lots of water. Use 260kg of sand and 150kg of rocks. 60kg of salt to get the right salinity. So far my floor have not warp in yet ... kee

Remember the days of the louhan era, ppl have 20+ 4ft tank in 3 tier order inside a single room, the room also no collaspe ... :P

Becoz new flat is built upon LEGO concept mah. Not much supporting beam like the old days when they more kiasu a bit.

8x3x3 should be around 1.2-1.5 tonnes without sump.
