Is my fan worm spawning?

Hi Last weekend morning,

I noticed my brown tubeworm or fanworm giving out "white smoke" like spawning every 20 seconds. Is it spawning?

The only changes that occured was more direct current blowing at it.

Can someone enlighten me or did anyone had any experience like this before?

Can someone tell me the exact spelling of Iriwana at Hougang and the contact no.?

Heard they have nice corals there.

coco worms and tube worms spawn slightly differently.

tube worms are like snails....their sperm are like cigarette smoke.

your coco worms damn powerful, sperm comes out in straight line!

Pardon my ignorance on reproduction of tube worms.

By the way, do they need to be specifically fed with phyto or zoo plankton or can they survive on little leftover particulate food from feeding the fish?

I've also been looking around LFS for other types of tube/fan worms like the red, pink, purple or white type but usually quite unsuccessful.

Anybody knows of any LFS(s) which usually stocks a good variety of tube/fan worms, please let me know. Thanks very much

You do not need to have a female tubeworm to release eggs for succesful external fertilization & propagation. Anyway, how do u differentiate between a male and female tubeworm anyway?

They are filter feeders and they will be able to survive on the dissolved leftover food that you feed to your fishes. Unless you are running a very powerful skimmer, then its best that you supplement it with off the shelf food.

If sperm is released by the fan worm, where are the eggs for fertilization unless the fan worm is reproducing asexually or through internal fertilization (i.e. it is a hemaphrodite) and then emitting the tiny fanworms but I read that these worms reproduced sexually?

Anyone can throw more light into this? Thanks.

i would like to think that they (the tubeworms) are hemaphrodites.

usually after my tube worm spawns, i get baby tube worms in my tank after 2 weeks or so.

No scientific back up, just my observations on my tank.
