SRC Supporter ReDDeviLs Posted January 23, 2005 Author SRC Supporter Share Posted January 23, 2005 the screws are the troublesome cleaning parts.. Quote [ ] [ ] Reef Reefing Reefed
Terryz_
The screws will get dirty??? What actually do you mean by easy cleaning... Getting rid of the algae in the skimmer body and etc huh... Quote Member of:
SRC Member riot Posted January 24, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted January 24, 2005 Of all the skimmers I have used, the H&S is the easiest to clean. Pop the head and neck off, dump the skimmate, rinse with warm water, slide it back in. aquac skimmate contaner is easy to remove, but the neck tends to accumunlate gunk so you will need to put your hand in there. Its non removable so requires manual scrubbing. Becks are the most troublesome. By the time you have unscrewed the thumb screws, I would have cleaned by H&S and put in back on operation again. DIY Mazzeis should be similar. Deltecs- no idea but should be similar to H&S. BKs- heard it needs to be retuned. Damn fickle. Hope this helps. SRC Member typrobin Posted January 24, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted January 24, 2005 totally agree with riot... beckett skimmers are troublesome when it comes to maintanence.. H&S is so much more convinient, and the skimmate is wet so u dun have to dig into the thick mud... another easy to clean skimmer is weipro loh... u rushing for a skimmer meh?? wait for CNY, get ang bao then buy new H&S loh... weileong
The latest barr aquatic beckett have the similar "twist and turn" feature avaliable on H&S and deltec and that makes cleaning the collection cup a breeze Major problem abt beckett skimmer is the injector can get choked easily and if this happens then it will results in the skimmer not skimming well especially if you run it with non pressured-rated pumps. So if you use a beckett better install a strainer to prevent the choking of the injector. Needlewheel are not spared too (except that bubbleking with titanium needlewheel), kanna some snails then the needlewheel might be damaged. End of the day, no particular type of skimmer is difficult to maintain, just depends on how it is designed. You can have needlewheel that requires to loosen 6 nuts in order to clean the collection cup This is called user friendliness. One important factor in choosing a skimmer too.
