hi wanna ask is increasing the O2 in the tank(using a air pump) a good thing or a bad thing?

i remember reading bout bactiera and O2 etc~ cant remember the details..

hope some 1 can help ;) thanks a lot

Increasing O2 in the water is always good, the pros of using a pump to bubble a tank is

-Increased water movement

-Increased O2 in the water

The cons are:

-bubbles are flying everywhere, some gets stuck with mucus of corals, not many like that in the reef tank

-bubbles burst when they reach the surface and salt spray will be everywhere

Do consider the above when implementing

I placed mine in the sump tank, but after awhile, the salt spray will get to your PL lights [if u have any]. In fact, after 6 months, my lights in the sump are very corroded.

Plus, I was using a wood airstone, by a year, the whole air stone rotted to the core.

I am not sure what impact it has but I read that oxygenated water helps to eliminate some of the bad bacteria. I was just maximizing my airpump since I was using them to kickstart my tank cycling.
