Rio HyperFlow Series

Dear Reefers,

I have been looking for a small return pump to replace my existing one. I am currently using the Atman 105 Flowrate 3000l/h. I have contemplate Ocean Runner and Eheim and decided against it due to the size as well (too big). The only option is the Aquabee. :D

This afternoon I went over to Bio Ocean after calling up to confirm they have stocks for the Aquabee. Upon reaching there, I realized that they also carries Rio HyperFlow.

Since got nothing to do, decided to check out the specs. For Aquabee, I have a choice of 2000l/h or the 3000l/h the electrica consumption of the 2000l/h is already 38w whereas the HyperFlow 10HF which manages 2700l/h consumes only 25w.

I compared both prices and that confirmed it, I left Bio Ocean a happy man with more cash to spare for my next Cynarina! :P

After I reached home and took out the 10HF realized it is so much smaller that my current Atman 105 for a minute I wonder whether it will be as powerful as the Atman. After I have installed it and on the switch, I realized that it performs just as well if not better.

Just wondering whether they are any reefers here uses it and what is your comments on it.

i'm using a 20HF 5000lph as my return pump..... at 50watts only..... strong enough that when the fishes poo, some of the faeces can be seen moving towards the overflow and washed down. not sure about the heat, but read from RC that this brand is condemned for safety issues. :)

i used 20hf for my skimmer last time, to replace an old eheim 1260...performance wise, its better than 1260...heat part, also cooler than my eheim...my overall tank temperature dropped by around 0.5degreeC...but lasting or not, not too sure cos i only used it for less than 1/2 year...

but on the whole, strong pump, cheap pump, low power consumption, compact...

should be using it for my new range of skimmers...

Look at its impeller & U will know why the flow is sooooo powerfull....but be cautious....its made in china...or taiwan for that matter.....nonetheless....its a good pump....

Saw the impellor - looks more like a turbine baldes in a turbo engine. :D

using my 20HF for abt 6 mths, no problems. Didn't feel much heat from the pump. No noise too.

The feedbacks from RC maybe was referring to other models that came out long time ago.

I agree, from what I know Rio initially sells their products direct to the US without much R & D. Just copy, manufactures and sells. But they have since have a greater presence in the US in oredr to cater to the big but demanding market in the US.

Anyway, for me, it still beats the Atman hands down. ;)

gouldian,

thanks for the feedback on rio10hf!

thinking of getting it to overdrive my urchin skimmer but can't find any review on it.

how much you pay for it?

The 10hf is below $70 vs the Aquabee which is double the price. ;)

I am also using Urchin, don't know it would be a good idea to overdrive it. Heard somewhere that it is better to run with the specific flow rate which for our case around 1200 - for me I drive it with Idra.

Previously I have drive it with 2000l/h to not significant result - only incraese the heat and electrical consumptiuon. :P

By the way, I have bought it from Bio Ocean, Anyone knows where I can find the HyperFlow besides Bio Ocean? I got a friend staying in the West and finds it hard to visit BO.

:off: IMHO, i wld strongly recommend using a pressure rated pump, e.g. iwaki, resun, etc to run a beckett skimmer. the back-pressure acting on a non-pressure rated pump will eventually cause the pump to spoil. ;)

Wah scary man if Rio can be used for Beckett, means prices of becketts will start tumbling. :yeah:
