Reef Plug!

I made a reef plug with epoxy and extra CC sand. The epoxy was a brand called Alteco that I bought at a small shop near tp bus interchange. Name is 3-ton epoxy and ingredients are epoxy and polyamine resin.

I just mixed an amount of epoxy large enough to make the cc sand stick together, mixed it with sand and left it for 1/2 an hour and bingo! done

The epoxied sand was rinsed with water and put in a small test tank with a few mushrooms. They are still doing OK with it in the water after 12 hours.

The epoxy is only $2-3 and clear. I will post pics when I make more for fun.

Is it as reefsafe as those meant for underwater use?

Just to be sure... coz I am worried about longterm leaching.

Anyway... I think that's a brilliant idea!

I was hunting for plant pegs actually... made of plastic and cone-shaped... you can glue a frag to it.

Actually if they made the golf pegs a bit larger, it would excellent!

Hasn't leached anything into the small tank yet, 3days and still going strong. I moved 3 mushrooms on top to help them die faster if it was toxic.

Anyway the plug looks nice. Maybe can culture coralline on top and then sell?

I think that the plug can be made to accomodate a clam's base too, maybe ven a tubeworm( if I can shape it that way. Solidifies in 5min and cures in 1/2 hour.

Okay an update.

The epoxy is hopeless for glueing LR together because it's too drippy. And if you don't rinse it before putting in the tank it leaves a greasy film on the water. That can be removed with paper towels. But it's fine for the reef plug idea. Just rinse it.
