Errr... u never wash ur sand and use a magnet to remove metal pieces?

errr ... never. See list of "nevers" here.:D:lol::D

Actually, the sand I bought is supposed to be pre-washed already. It comes pre-packed in transparent plastic bags of 5kg per bag. But is it really clean? I don't know but at least I don't see any large pieces of rubbish.

Thanks.

When you need to drill the hole, I can lend you that long drill bit if you need. But please don't ask me to help you with the drilling and chiselling. I fear my back won't be able to tahan and break!

More sand went into the tank on the 2nd day. Then I just wanted to let the sand soak and settle a bit.

Filling Up

On the 3rd day, 6 Nov 2004, I siphon out most of the murky water and replaced it with freshly made salt water (SG=1.022) using Aqua Medic Sea Salt. Yes, the tap water was treated using SeaChem Prime before I mixed the salt.

I also started transferring some liverocks from my old tank over. A couple of powerheads were put into the tank to get the water circulation going.

The green hose in the top-left photo is connected to the main return from the Eheim 1262. I mix the salt water in the sump and use the Eheim 1262 to pump it up into the main tank.

The round gray-coloured things are PVC pipes cut to about 4" height for supporting the base liverocks.

......i believe one part all reefers enjoy the most in this hobby is starting up a tank....... :peace::peace:

That's very true. The start-up phase is really fun ... planning, buying, stocking. :D

But once it's fully stocked, it goes into the maintenance phase and it slowly becomes a drag if the routine is troublesome. :P

i can share this part with you..

even if don't have to do anything troublesome in the maintenance routine...it is still very boring....

the only joy is to see the fishes grow up

like watching your children grow up like dat.... :P

But without the worries of what Primary School they are going, which tuition teacher to employ, what computer to buy for them......etc...etc.... :P

You're right, you know.

I can certainly testify to that because I felt so happy see my Chevron Tang grew about an inch in just over a month. When I bought it, it was smaller than my Yellow Tang. Now it's the same size and just as fat!

Maybe gotta start planning for a tank upgrade soon already. :pinch:

oh yah..talking about chevron tangs...try to take pics of your chevy at regular intervals....it is one of the tangs that undergoes drastic change from juvenile to adult....

when it has finally reached adult stage, you can have a montage of pics from juvenile to adult....something like i did below:

http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...c=18728&st=1275

like seeing a baby from crawling stage to the day he gets married :D

Thanks for the tip and link. Very nicely done. Wow, your Chevron grew from baby to adult in barely 7+ months. That's fast. I better start taking more photos soon. :thanks:

Stacking It Up

By the 4th day, 7 Nov 2004, I had transferred more liverocks from the old tank and also bought an additional 23kg of fairly good quality liverocks. These 23kg are mainly large pieces which I used to create overhangs.

No, I never scrub the liverocks before putting them into the tank. All I did was to remove crabs and dying sponges, if any.

I should eventually have a total of about 60kg liverocks (old + new) when I'm done with the transfer.

Here's how the tank looked on day 4. It's not complete yet. I took a break to snap this photo because my back is killing me. Standing on a ladder, bending over the tank and stacking rocks for hours is back-breaking. :pinch:
