SRC Member williammuk Posted May 14, 2005 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 14, 2005 Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU all for your concern and generous offer to help. I appreciate it. Here's what happened ... YESTERDAY Wife and kids came home to discover power outage. ELCB had tripped. Wife reset ELCB. I was on my way home at that time. Kids called me. Screaming frantically ... "Just now power failure! Lots of fishes dead! Shrimp dead! Skimmer overflow.". My daughter started giving me a casualty report on my mobile. "Dead - Corel Beauty, Rusty, Flame, one Cleaner Shrimp, Regal Tang ...." "Water very dirty ... the rest can't see ..." My heart sank. I arrived home. Posted the previous message. Changed out of work clothes to work on tank. Status check: - Chiller running. Temperature reading 28.1 deg C. - All lights on. Switched off 2x250W MH. Only 4x54W T5 on. - Skimmer looks OK now. - Water looks OK now. - Lying dead was Coral Beauty Angel, Rusty Angel and one Cleaner Shrimp. - Yellow Tang, Purple Tang, Chevron Tang swimming around. Looks OK. - Can see Regal Tang, Flame Angel, Bartlett Anthias, Carberryi Anthias inside rockscape. - Other fishes can't see. - Some SPS RTNed. Some LPS receding. - Closer observation confirms that Regal Tang and Carberryi are OK. Just frightened. - But Flame Angel is dead and stuck between some rocks. - Temperature check - 27.7 deg C. Good. Chiller is functioning OK. Investigations revealed that the power trip probably occurred at around 9am. My wife reset ELCB about 7pm. That makes it about 10 hours that the tank was without circulation. - The Bartlett is missing. And I can't find the rest of the fishes and shrimps. - I think they are probably stressed and hiding. So decided to leave it alone. THIS MORNING As at this morning, tank looks OK. Survived: - 1 x Regal Tang - 1 x Chevron Tang - 1 x Yellow Tang - 1 x Purple Tang - 1 x Yellow Belly Damsel - 1 x Clarkii Clown - 1 x Orchid Dottyback - 1 x Royal Gramma - 1 x Carberryi Anthias - 1 x Cleaner Shrimp - 1 x Blood Shrimp - All Softies. - All Montis. Some Acros. - Most LPS (except some receding). Total death toll: - 1 x Flame Angel - 1 x Coral Beauty Angel - 1 x Rusty Angel - 1 x Cleaner Shrimp - Some Arcos RTNed. Still missing: - 1 x Bartlett Anthias - 1 x Blood Shrimp CONCLUSION Ten hours without water circulation deprived the water of the much needed oxygen. Must install UPS to provide water circulation and aeration. I used to have one but it has conked out last year. I had wanted to get a new one but haven't gotten around to it yet. Guess this ordeal will speed things up a bit. Once again, thanks all for your concern and generous offer to help. That's all for now. Gotta go. Cheers and may this never happen to you tank. SRC Member AlfaRomeo Posted May 14, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted May 14, 2005 Yo William, glad to heard that the casualty list was limited. Could be worst. Thank god that your tank is clean from algae etc etc which could have made the oxygen demand higher and thus more casualties. Get your UPS fixed
