HI ! After collectin 2 years of expereice with LSP,

i am gonna give SPS a try with the my new tank.

I am using 2 x 400 w MH (BLV) with Actinic blues...

what is the minimum distance I should keep the light form the surface of the water ?

Beside heat, are there any side effects if MH is place to near to the LS ? like burning them ?

Thank you ! :thanks:

guess is around 7 inches or so~~~

dun place your mushroom too near~~ it will burn them

And place your sps at the bottom , which after then bring it up higher

in order to get use to the intense light~~

or else will experience RTN~~

Hmmm... another 400w user? :)

Welcome to the "PUB's VIP" club! :P

You can raise your 400w to 12" above water and still get a lot of light intensity all the way down to the bottom of your tank.

It is recommended that if you still have LPS because under 400w, raise your lamps higher or put them right at the bottom as it may be too much for some species... they will bleach... so you may even have to put them under shade! ;)

Thanks for the advise,

yeah, I plan to have a mix tank, so would try to shelter the lps , hopefully they can get use to the sudden change of light from 1.5 years of 150W :):P

Well, utilities bill is a concerm, But the beauty of striving sps tank is too attractive to look the other way...

And with the statistics of successful sps tank giving minimum 5 w per gallon(from a book I can't remember the title, the 800w its still consider under the "average" right ight intensity :erm:

I guess it pays to mimic god's creation... ...

I guess there is only one way to find out :)

:thanks:
