Problem With Nitrate

Hi all,

Can any one advise me how to reduce my nitrate level in

my tank other than doing water change?.

Presently my nitrate level is about 50ppm.

IME best way to reduce nitrate is still upgrading skimmer... I used to have nitrate at 25+ when using wipro last itme... Now that i have change to reef maniac beckett, my nitrate drop all the way to less than 2

Or u can dose AZ-NO3,

it cost around 35SGD, and it is very effective for me.

Keep a big bush of Macro Algae. Manage to drop my NO3 from 20-30 down to less than 10.

Also, I leave and change a prefilter(poly filter) in the filter weekly. Super dirty.

Hi, if you have no tangs in your tank a nice peice of Calurpa like grape or blade or chaetomorpha will reduce nitrates it feeds off it, plus its colorful, if you have tangs you'll be fine with the chaetomorpha tangs don't eat it, hope this helps, and a good skimmer will help to.

There was wet, dirty & thick stuff in my skimmer. Yep, I have Bioballs

in my sump tank.

u need more life rocks...............

if not in ur main tank then at least in ur sump............

or the best redo ur tank...........

Basically u have to slow down the nitrification process (provided your tank is stable and mature) and promote de-nitrification

getting a clam is a good idea...get a "la la" also can..any kind of clam feeds on nitrate..

once i saw someone putting afew giant maximas in their refugium to get rid of nitrate..

but make sure your water temp is below 29 constantly..
