My new tank

Hello,

I am new to marine. May I know

1) why the gravel and some parts of the glass wall turn brown after 2 weeks of setup?

2) why the anemone (from philipine, white colour with blue tips) not eating the shrimp? Or what is their diet?

3) is the doctor shrimp harmful (attack) to crown fish?

Thank you.

The brown stuff are diatoms.

You get these when your water's nitrate and phosphate level are on the high side.

Not harmful, just unsightly.

I don't keep anemone, so I can't comment on this.

But I can say you need strong lighting to keep this fella.

Doctor shrimp - you mean the cleaner skunk shrimp, right?

Red with white stripe on back?

It cleans fishes.

It's good.

Btw, I think you meant "clown" fish ...

Thank you everyone, especially clownman.

Sorry, I am not good in searching information.

I have 4 anemone, 2 (brown colour and cheap) are hungry but the other 2 (very attractive but expensive. Yellow with blue tip and another one white with blue tip) refuse shrimp.

Thank you.

all I can say that if anemones are behaving abnormally, do some water parameters measurement especially on the KH, salinity, calcium. I personally feel that any abnormality you observed in corals and inverberate could highly due to water parameters affecting them.
