SRC Member CooL_anakin Posted August 31, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2003 My parents allowed me finally to invest on something better. Any advises? (Deltec,Schuran,AquaC,Euroreef)
SRC Member alvy Posted August 31, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2003 I would vote for either Deltec, H&S or Euroreef!!
SRC Member CooL_anakin Posted August 31, 2003 Author SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2003 H&S long name is??
IanJ
The skimmers you mentioned are all very good, i have no experience myself with the H&S/Euroreef but in Europe Deltec, Aquamedic and Schuran are the most popular. I suggest you get the biggest that you can afford your tank will be better for it and should allow you to upgrade to a bigger tank at a later date if wanted. From what i see the needle wheel type generate the maximum fine bubbles with the minimum power. You are wise not to get the Weipro.
SRC Member CooL_anakin Posted August 31, 2003 Author SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2003 Which are the needle wheel types?
SRC Member dodo Posted August 31, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2003 not too sure on deltec...nvr seen one in action b4...becos the price really put me off All the brand u mentioned is rather popular. Since Euroreef is the same as H&S...i assume it uses needle wheel technology. Other than H&S/EuroReef, i thk Aquamedic skimmer uses needle wheel as well

SRC Member CooL_anakin Posted August 31, 2003 Author SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2003 LOL... Thanks. How much does a Euroreef roughly cost?
SRC Member SharkBait Posted August 31, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2003 That depends on the size of your tank.PR is selling them.it would roughly cost $500 for a skimmer suitable for 100 gallon and below.
Dispar_Anthias
I support euro- reef and H & S

SRC Member SharkBait Posted August 31, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2003 than i doubt you can fit the euroreef inside the sump(its in sump type)its really big!if thats the case, maybe you can consider the aquaC remora or urchin.if you are willing to spend big bucks than can get the EV series. SRC Member SharkBait Posted August 31, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2003 there no 'best' skimmer actually.its really your preference.some people likes the aquaC.some would say weipro is value for money.its really what you need vs what you are willing to pay for.if you have limited space, you will like aquaC,.me,i will opt for euroreef. SRC Member pospeh Posted September 1, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 1, 2003 They are all very excellent choices. You definitely can't go wrong with buying any of the brands you mentioned. Just get the biggest skimmer you can afford financially (and spacewise). Also get the model that is ranked 1 higher than the volume rating given by the manufacturer. IanJ
I have used 2 Aquamedic Turboflotors 1000 multi for 4 years, in my opinion you will not find a better hang-on needle wheel skimmer.
SRC Member dodo Posted September 1, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 1, 2003 (edited) wat's the price for euro reef? is it comparable to AquaC? as far as i am concern, the needle wheel need to be replace occassionally(1-2years) which dun come cheap. the last time i ask for the price of a needle wheel at a particular LFS, it cost $100-$150 IanJ, do u replace your needle wheel? IanJ
Dodo Never heard of anyone ever having to replace the needle wheel in Aquamedic or Deltec skimmer, unless they mis-handled it when they tried to clean it and broke some of the pins. The needle wheel skimmer really is low maintainace. I run Aquamedic 5000 baby now, never have to touch the needle wheel
SRC Member CooL_anakin Posted September 1, 2003 Author SRC Member Share Posted September 1, 2003 I'll make my choice after the price at EAN is released.. Got to roughly estimate.. So if i have limited area better to use AquaC?

Actually was asking someone's behalf as he is inflexible in getting an used turboflotor previously. However after testing for several days, he gave up the attempt because he found out that the needlw wheel inside the pump is broken and the replacement for the needlewheel is not economical to replace anyway, thank you for your reply
IanJ
Dodo The needle wheel should not be expensive to replace. I do know that certainly in the UK LFS's are selling replacement needle wheels at high prices to discourage people buying them and using them(upgrade) to power venturi skimmers. Normally if the shop knows that you do have a turboflotor, they sell you the part at a very reasonable price. Your friend may wish to contact Aquamedic direct via their website if they have no joy via the importer. One thing to check on the multi 1000 is the hole that the airline is attached to on the pump. It becomes blocked and greatly reduces the air intake, so much so that the skimmer stops skimming and appears to be broken. It just needs cleaning out with a piece of wire or similar. Just a thought. SRC Member dodo Posted September 1, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 1, 2003 i was quoted $150 at a well known LFS at balestier for the needlewheel replacement dunno if he contacted Aquamedic, but he has the habit of not asking & seeking the things he desired. anywhere, he has since given up hope on the turboflotor... which I suggested to him long ago. well, well, well...if only he choose to listen.
