The skimmers you mentioned are all very good, i have no experience myself with the H&S/Euroreef but in Europe Deltec, Aquamedic and Schuran are the most popular.

I suggest you get the biggest that you can afford your tank will be better for it and should allow you to upgrade to a bigger tank at a later date if wanted.

From what i see the needle wheel type generate the maximum fine bubbles with the minimum power. You are wise not to get the Weipro.

not too sure on deltec...nvr seen one in action b4...becos the price really put me off

All the brand u mentioned is rather popular.

Since Euroreef is the same as H&S...i assume it uses needle wheel technology. Other than H&S/EuroReef, i thk Aquamedic skimmer uses needle wheel as well :)

there no 'best' skimmer actually.its really your preference.some people likes the aquaC.some would say weipro is value for money.its really what you need vs what you are willing to pay for.if you have limited space, you will like aquaC,.me,i will opt for euroreef.

They are all very excellent choices.

You definitely can't go wrong with buying any of the brands you mentioned.

Just get the biggest skimmer you can afford financially (and spacewise). Also get the model that is ranked 1 higher than the volume rating given by the manufacturer.

wat's the price for euro reef? is it comparable to AquaC?

as far as i am concern, the needle wheel need to be replace occassionally(1-2years) which dun come cheap. the last time i ask for the price of a needle wheel at a particular LFS, it cost $100-$150 :ooh:

IanJ, do u replace your needle wheel?

Never heard of anyone ever having to replace the needle wheel in Aquamedic or Deltec skimmer, unless they mis-handled it when they tried to clean it and broke some of the pins.

The needle wheel skimmer really is low maintainace.

I run Aquamedic 5000 baby now, never have to touch the needle wheel

IanJ,

Thank you for replying. Actually was asking someone's behalf as he is inflexible in getting an used turboflotor previously. However after testing for several days, he gave up the attempt because he found out that the needlw wheel inside the pump is broken ;) and the replacement for the needlewheel is not economical to replace

anyway, thank you for your reply :)

The needle wheel should not be expensive to replace. I do know that certainly in the UK LFS's are selling replacement needle wheels at high prices to discourage people buying them and using them(upgrade) to power venturi skimmers. Normally if the shop knows that you do have a turboflotor, they sell you the part at a very reasonable price. Your friend may wish to contact Aquamedic direct via their website if they have no joy via the importer.

One thing to check on the multi 1000 is the hole that the airline is attached to on the pump. It becomes blocked and greatly reduces the air intake, so much so that the skimmer stops skimming and appears to be broken. It just needs cleaning out with a piece of wire or similar. Just a thought.

:o i was quoted $150 at a well known LFS at balestier for the needlewheel replacement  dunno if he contacted Aquamedic, but he has the habit of not asking & seeking the things he desired.

anywhere, he has since given up hope on the turboflotor... which I suggested to him long ago. well, well, well...if only he choose to listen.
