Need help on overflow noises

Hey guys,

I need help.

Currently, the water flowing through the teeth of the overflow box into the overflow box is very noisy.

Install duoso pipes, but still no use. I guess, duoso pipes are meant for reducing the noise when water is being drained/sucked into the sump.

The noise i am currently facing, is the noise when the water hits the waterlevel of the overflow box.

How can i solve it?

By the way, for the duoso pipes, what does the little hole on top side of the pipe do? Do i close it, or open it?

Thanks!

Bro,

To reduce the waterfall effect, try to raise the durso pipe higher so that the water level between the tank and the overflow partition is minimum.

For the little hole, you need to leave it open. This is to prevent the siphoning effect of a durso without the hole.

raise the durso pipe higher? i think mine is the max... i don't really want to buy any more pipes... any other ways?

lyk putting bio balls...etc...

raise the water level in the overflow to about 2 to 3 iches of the level of the tank, this way, the sound would be greatly reduce.

;)

how do you raise the water level in the overflow box? the more i tried to increase the water level, the greater is the sound...

Don't think putting anything into the overflow chamber will work as the water level inside the chamber is 'fixed' by the inlet of the durso pipe. Putting things only occupy the volume of space but will not push up the water level as the durso pipe inlet will suck it off anyway and the diference in water level between top of chamber overflow and water level inside chamber remain same.

One way is to cut shorter the inlet to raise the water line into the inlet. Other than that, I don't think there is any other practical way other than raising the durso.

If your problem is the same as mine, its caused by the water flowing from the main tank into the overflow rite?sounds like a waterfall.

wat i did was to increase the water level in the overflow till its about 2" below the water level of the main tank, i do this by adding in water and adjusting the ball valve controlling the amt of water flowing back into the sump.

This is by far the most hassle free method of reducing the sound level caused by the waterfall.

*thanks to bro weileong who pointed this out to me when he came over to my place.

well, i had all the valves pre installed in my tank already

currently, i using md 55 as my return, with tee offs here and there.

When i increase the flowrate of the md 55, the water level raises, causing alot of noises in the overflow box.

To reduce the noise, i tried to reduce the speed inlet hoses flow to the sump. Whenever i do that, there is not enough flow for the md 55, causing the md 55 to shoot out bubbles.

caught in a bad situation.
