Help Required for 2ft tank

Hi refeers...

urgently need some help for my 2ft tank...

My tank is only 3 weeks old.. firstly I did not do a water circulation for 2 weeks..

On the 4th day.. I started putting in fishes.. Sadly... all those fishes did not survive for more than 4 days. ich were detected on their body and slowly... one by one died.. :cry2:

[A happy note is that my chromis and two shrimps (blood and cleaner) survivied till now  ]

Stopped for one week.. On 31 Dec04, bought another fish (YT) from ML and put it in the tank. The fish did not really eat... only nimble at my LR.. and sadly It died on the 4th day (4th January 05). Should not be the fish problem (cos bought it together with my collegue and his YT is swimming happily in his tank)

Can anyone advise me on what I can do?? I am planning to cycle my fish tank for one week before putting in new fishes . I just want to have fishes to survive in my tank!!! :(

Any advice/comments/feedback are appreciated!! :thanks:

Below are my tank configuration and parmaters

Tank Configuration & Parmaters

1. 2x1x1.5ft with 2ft sump

2. Macro AS350 Skimmer

3. Dymax T5 lights

Nitrite: 0.1

Nitrate: 30

PH: 8.1

KH:6

Specifed Level: 1.0255

Ammonia: Using Ammonia Alert (in safe zone) [will be buying an ammonia tester later]

Temperature: approx 30 degree

IMO, you clearly did not read up enough when you decided to start a marine tank.

This has resulted in the deaths of many fishes you bought. The chromis survived but wats the point? its a hardy by nature and its cheap, and the fishes that died are the expensive ones. Sorry if i sound harsh, but your lack of information has caused the uneccessary deaths of many fishes.

Spend about an hour browsing thru here and you will find tons of information.

hope you get it right this time.

Thanks for sharing the thread with me...

However...had read thru the information listed in the link before...

However.. was constantly measuring the paramter of the tank when fishes was put in. During the time when my YT was put into the tank... parameter of the tank was constantly measured. ANN was always within safe zone...

What I am trying to figure out is there any other issues that causes the death of my fishes? or am I right to say that without water cycle... my fishes WILL DIE?? :nc:

Thanks!! That is what I am really looking for..

To understand what is the damage if no cycle is done.

[This is because some reefers I know also do not cycle their tank for 2 weeks and yet their fishes are swimming happily]

Thanks!!

If u cannot wait for the tank to recycle.... one way is to buy/get live rock from establish tank. Else, fish will continue to die until the bacteria are established.

:) Greeting :)

Tank: 4' by 2' by 2' (CR antique)

Sump: 3' include 1' refuigm

The way you introduce your fish into the tank might be a root cause beside your water parameters and never cycle you tank.

Look at your water parameter, it should be ok only your KH 6 is slighty on the low side and Specifed Level: 1.0255 is on the high side.

Maybe you can let us know how you introduce new fish into your tank.

My live rocks are purchased from a fellow reefer which had been in his tank for approx 1 year..

Yap... My collegues (fellow reefers) also informed me of the parameter.. will be changing the parameter...

1. increasing KH from 6 to 9 (adding KH Buffer)

2. Decreasing specfied level from 1.0255 to 1.023 (changing water)

:nc:

How do I add in the fishes?

Soak the plastic bag (together with the fishes) in the tank for 30 minutes. After that release the fish in the tank... <_<

lastly... will cycle my tank now. However... dun want to put dead prawn in to the tank (smell may affects my family members).. Other than this method... what other means?

Currently using enzyme (bacteria) once every two days [to expediate the growth of bacteria in my biohom]

The way you add your new fish might be the cause. As water parameter from LFS and your tank might be different, by soaping for 30 min, you just only equalise the temperature but not the water. The best way to prevent shock to your newly added fish is after soaping for 30 min, slowly add bit by bit of your tank water into the plastic bag so that you fish will not feel a sudden change of PH and get shock once you introduce it into your tank. Hope that help.

trust thioeh, i have seen his fishes..... :whistle ....

anyway, i used to do what you did when i was starting out...heck, i used to keep goldfish for some time and most of us just dump the fish in the tank after 15 min in the bag...... but i realize for most marine fishes, they don't live long.....please do proper acceilmation, it improves their chances of survial....

oh.....i was running a 2 footer.....didn't add my first clown fish until 30 days later.... :D ...then got reckless and kill many fishes in the process.... :(
