Help on MARCO skimmer!!

I had been running my marco 150NW for 4 days liao but no skimate is coming out leh.. Pls advise on the ideal water level -- here are a few pic of the level i tried!!

1ST- middle

2ND -- Lowest water level which i can set...

3rd -- highest level which the bubble just just the tip ... but there is a BIG problem... water leak out from the red control knob when i adjust to the highest!!

bubble doesn't look good.

Believe u place ur pump toofar from skimmer, or pump flow rate is lot lower...

water level should be @ neck, black area.

reduce air intake....

let it run for few more days & see how.

new skimmer got oily surface which need to be cleared to be able to skim effectively.

pic of my skimmer pump... is it in the correct position? it about 5 am away from the surface because i heard that it will perform better!

pump is too low. try to raise it higher.

hmm.. the water level in the pic is very high because i top up water to reduce my salinity... hehe .. so the correct level you should see is much lower than this...

then u shld relocate your pump elsewhere.

Hi Bro,

From the photo, ur pump look too much lower liao. Have u change the tubing? Btw, have u got ur sump already? The macro NW is better to place in sump rather than the position u shown.

Thanks bro... give up on sump liao.. cos got to spent $200 to buy a overbox..

Hmm.. will try to shift the skimmer to the first filter compartment and change back to original tube!!

so what should you see in the bubble chamber actually?

Hi Bro,

I think u can DIY ur own overflow box, u can pose or check with all the bros here, I remember seeing some DIY overflow box here, also u can DIY ur own sump too.

For the bubble, it's best to set them near to the throat of the collection cup, not too dry and not too wet, that's my own preferance.

how about the cloudy bubble in the lower chamber? should you see the whole chamber with bubble or the one in my pic.. ( only half)

relocate my skimmer liao.. using back the original pipe... but seem like its not doing any good too... pls advise!

I am also using the Macro NW skimmer. From my own experience, the pump must not be too deep in the water. Too deep and there will be not much bubbles.

In my case, the pump intake is only 5cm from the water surface. I do this by placing the pump on a live rock inside the sump to make it nearer to the water surface.

thanks for your reply... but i have shifted my pump higher liao.. but seem that its still not doing well.. lots of bubbles in the upper half chamber but not much below... no skimate yet!!

Hi Bro,

Looks like u nearly got it, it should have lots of bubble in the upper half as it came from the pump and looks like spiral blowing all the way up.

U can still play with the green air outlet for final tuning. Try to adjust the bubble to reach the neck but not too wet as it might overflow.
