Are the HS messy eaters?

Thinking of getting a pair and plunk into my sps tank, but worry they might degrade water quality with their butchering of the star fish.

It really depends. Initially, they are a terrible eater. Killing the sea star immediately. However, after a few months later, mine has somehow learnt not to eat the sea star immediately by eating from the tip of the star's leg.

Oops sorry clarify:

Do they like tear the starfish into pieces and then float the rubbish about? I was hoping thay they will eat the tip carefully and keep my tank clean of floating starfish meat

its messy, i've kept a pairs b4 in my 2ft ( partly becos i throw the whole linkia into the tank and those fellow r feasting buffet stlye )...

Its the natural way of life. Do u feel that u're cruel feeding brine shrimp?

animals do not know compassion. if they did, they'd been wiped out a long time ago.

That why I never feed LIVE food into my tank except LIVE Phytoplankton which is kind of marine plant

In actual fact, most pellet avail have some form of organism in them like brine, mysis, etc.

I will never buy any livestock that feed on live food. So my point of view is let the mother of nature take care of their diet instead of man-feed them live food

You are right!

Frankly speaking, I really like Halequin shrimp but their way of eating live star fish really put me off.

It will be wonderful if they are algae eater

i suppose you will also discourage your friends for feeding live tubifex/blood worms for their freshwater fishes? hehe

and also against marine reefers in here who feed live adult or freshly hatched brine shrimp? hehe
