help in positiong sump

Hi, would appreciate if u would spare a thought the better way of position the sump taking into the following constraints:

Vote 1:

the pump has to travel distance to chiller before returning to aquarium.

Vote 2:

The positioning allows shorter distance but has 1 setback:

1) if not properly plumbed, the pipes from the overflow compartment may leak as it has a distance to travel beofre arriving at sump.

but distance shorter

Vote 3:

Any leaks will drip directly to sump.

but distance for return pump to travel not as good as Vote 2 but better Vote 1

I will take vote 2.

If using PVC glue, the piping should be leakproof. Connect with unions so in worse case can dismantle and rework piping. Sump can always shift if neccessary.

But why not sure your secondary to drive the chiller as chillers dont require too high a flow. Use the 1262 as the main straight into the tank.

i agree that chillers do not need high outflow.

When to lfs, they recommended to use 1262 to chiller as they feel 1262 is too strong...the water coming back may not be fast enough. (will eexperience gashing sound)

note. i already hav an eheim 1262

a suggestion,

how bout this...

do away with the macro deNO3 (issit a denitrator?)

drill 2 holes, locate ur chiller outside the cabinet...

buy a outsump skimmer such as macro as350P or beckett skimmer n place front n back with ur calcium reactor...

then the pump for chiller put in compartment 1, same as ur pump1, outlet into compartment 2 or 3....

in this way, u do not need to buy very powerful pump for ur chiller as there is not so such overhead loss...

then offset the money for a stronger pump for a single return for ur pump 3...

in this way, u can hav a longer refuguim too :)
