OK... it's confirmed.... My tank will be built by Lim Han Teck...

Just called him this afternoon to confirm... meeting his carpenter soon...

Tank size is confirmed at 5' (L) x 2' (W)' x 27" (H)....

Yup, the usual euro bracing and small strip of glass along all silicon sealant for extra reinforcement.... and yeah, regarding the silicon issue... the small strip of glass in silicon will resolve it.... :)

Protein skimmer - EV240 powered by external pump Oceanfree 9000

Using FR from Joe... with add on BAC unit... probably tee-off from return pump...

Yeah, will be using Mak 4 as return pump.

Setup will be a FOWLR and probably w some leather...

No chiller.... no MH..... using T5s.....

Thanks to those who have helped in giving advices...

Just made my deposit payment and discussed the sump and tank design with the tank maker...

Here's how it will be (See following pixs).... Pls advise and comments...

Tank is FOWLR w probably some leather corals...

No chiller so external pumps and tubby top up are being used....

Using T5s....2 tube of 10000k white light and 1 tube of actinic blue...

Also I need to know how much (kg) of live rock should I get...

and yeah, if I am going for a 5" DSB... for a 5' x 2' x 2.5'.... how much kg of sand would I require?

Thanks...

Here's the sump design... (Top view)

Pls comment.....

I was wondering it the tee-off from the return pump to run the FR will result in head loss... but then again, I was told that you need only a little flow to run FR.... so it is not too much to tee-off.... please advise....

Schematic drawing of where the tank will be... (estimate)

Have paid the deposit... Tank building will commence in two weeks period...

Pardon the lousy "sketching" :lol::D:lol:

Tank will be two view.... front and right panel.... Using black background for the back and left (Left will be where the overflow is.... in black acrylic)

Eagled eyed people can see the EV240 skimmer (fm yazid), Joe's FR, and my private collection of ostrich eggs... hehe...

Just a question..... does it mean that if my cabinet bottom surface area is larger (in this case, I count in the shoe cabinet and the wall feature).... it means the water and tank weight is more distributed? and thus safer?

Isnt that a bit wasted not to be having reef as your theme for such a fantastic tank setup?

terry got me right... less maintenance... that's what I am going for...

Depending on how u arrange the rocks and the type of fishes...

In the end, it will be a minimalist look that my wife and I are trying to achieve... ;)

if u can come up with a rockscape something like this pic, I'm sure ur FOWLR will look fantastic!

Cool man! I wonder how they do the live rock wall behind.... Saw someone in SRC did it for his tank... tie small pieces of live rocks (esp tonga branches type) to a plastic crate and just leave it leaning on the back glass...

Problem was there is a "dead" area of water behind... hmppphhh.... which can become a detritus sink....

Anyone w any other ideas...

My neighbour was "renovating" his balcony garden and threw away three pieces of these... they measure 1' by 1' and is one inch thick...

Made of plastic (black colour) and was wondering if I can use it in replacement of white egg crate? They are very sturdy (Used to support large pots of plants)

and I plan to use them as base support for my live rocks... heard lots of story of liverocks collapsing into DSBs after some time as the sand dissipate over time... and was wondering if this plastic can be used instead of white egg crate?

Can any plastic be used or must it really be white egg crate alone?

Thks...

I am looking again at the rockscape picture that bro limbssg posted earlier...

Upon closer inspection, it does not look like pieces of liverocks being stacked together..... seems like it is all joint... was wondering if this is artifically made and then left to seed with life....

hmmppphhh.....

I chanced upon this at wetwebmedia.com... made by Rolf Bandsma... artificially made liverocks that is yet teeming with life.....

Website of Artificial liverocks...
