as above. was told that kapoh is strong enuff already..

any advice?

difference is just a couple of hundreds dollars... why risk? chenggai can definitely last more than 10 years... probably much much more... unless u intend to use the stand for a few years.. otherwise I would suggest chenggai wood..

Can anyone advise

"off topic" will concrete/brick wall stand be a good support also?

thks in advance ..

need to be a little careful with concrete/brick.. probably need to lay it with the proper type of mortar that can withstand saltspray... also need to get the concrete/brick mortar to cure properly first before putting the tank down...

But other than that I guess it should be fine, pretty rock solid (literally). I've seen some people use concrete blocks as well... just that concrete/brick require so much more space than a thin legged steel or wooden stand...

Mortar's the thing that goes between the bricks to "glue" them together...

Also if you are thinking of laying your own bricks, trust me get someone to do it for you... I've tried laying bricks before and it looks a lot easier that it really is...

Can build stands using kapur and then lacquer it. The problem with chenggai is that staining will occur on the floors and materials in contact with it.

So i humbly think that kapur wood will suffice (in comparison to others this material is considered one of the best around for stand making).

For alternative methods like the use of cement (ct) sand (sd) mortar together with concrete block or clay bricks, it is definitely a sound construction method which indefinitely can last you for a very long time.

You will need time for it to cure - 7 days, 14 and 21 days strength varies, so you need it to cure for at least 21 days before loading it (unless you want to use RHPC - rapid hardening portland ct). You will need to skim coat (or plaster) the surfaces to make it look good. For extra durability you can utilise salts resisting additives for the skim coat.

Problem if you were to build it yourself is the ct:sd mortar mix which you need to get the mix ratio correct. And also the spirit levelling can be tricky too - need to use a marine ply as base for you tank.

Finally, you can decorate the stands with tiling works or even wrap cabinet over it. The downside is, the tank support structure will weigh an awful lot !!! and combine with you tank + water will indefinitely be not permissible if you are doing it on HDB/Condos. Ground floor for landed ppties will be ok but for 2nd storey and above need to check with you structural engineer or PE.

Hope it helps.

maybe u might wanna try to do it like bio ocean...

the bricks as side stands, then use wood as horizontal supports..of cos u will still need the styrofoam..

yes, i am using just that.

it serves me well.

it fact, if you use those bricks of a smoother surface, you may be able to paint them in colours to your liking.

teak is very expensive as far as i concern.

so only if u have the extra money to set it up, not a bad point though.

the wood itself its beautiful enough.

If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
