metal stand strong enough?

hi

is a normal black iron stand strong enough to handle a 3 feet marine tank? (with LR, LS, everything.)

plan to use the current one i have now. some rust on it, but will use the rust remover (Aquaz)to clean up b4 i start the tank.

IME wrought iron stand is quite risky coz if u place against the wall rust will build up on the inside of the stand that's facing the wall. In about a year or so corrosion will worsen the strength of the stand.

I suggest chenggai wood stand is the best.

Many cabineted tanks are made from such wood.

Like mine here in the picture which is extremely heavy as well. :)

Here's the side view of the stand.

When after I shifted my tanks onto this new rack, my wrought iron stand's second tier gave way when I hit it with my hammer. This iron stand had been with me for 3 years( 1.5 years koi, goldfish and discus, 1.5 years marine).

Hm.. strange jointing for the chengal stand.... think i've seen it done like that before somewhere.. well in anycase, even stainless steel will rust after time... but if treated properly can last as long as if not longer than wooden stands... the key is the treatment part...
