Nudibranch Eggs

Found several cones of nudibranch eggs on my zoos - bearing in mind that each cones has about 10K to 100K eggs. What should I do with them? Pluck each one out and throw or just leave them alone?

Not sure if they're poisonous.. Still trying to find more info on the eggs..

I don't think the fishes will eat the eggs as they are poisonous. My suggestion is that unless you want to see loads of tiny slugs coming out and there's a lack of specific foods for them, you'll should remove them now as there is little hope for them to survive in our reef tanks.

Possible bioload hazard too!

would freshwater dip work for the killing of the eggs?

Alternatively, if you taking the rock out of the water, why don't you just scrap them off instead of sacrificing the microlife on the LR when u freshwater dip it?

Hm.. seeing that the eggs are poisionous, won't scrapping them possibly realease the poision?

Well, if they are crushed to bits INSIDE the tank, then possibly you have contamination.

But if its done in a pail OUTSIDE the tank with the saltwater discarded later and the scrapping (not crushing) is done carefully, you won't get this risk.

Anyway, the eggs are on my zoos and so I could not bear to throw the whole rock away. What I did this afternoon was to scrap those eggs off though it was tough, especially when their texture is like jelly and all. The rock is now not totally 100% free from eggs now - there's a few tiny strands though. But I think and I hope it'll be safe enough for now.

Nope... fresh water dip wun kill the eggs... the dip only kill the parents.. as for the eggs, manually remove them with a tweezer.... Continue to monitor the zoo(if you still want to keep it alive) to see anymore nudi hatch out and den continue the dipping process....

The are many threads in RC regarding the zoos eating nudi.... Go read up on them

it might just be the zoo-eating nudi!!!

better becareful...once they are present in your tank, your zoo can never survive...

i tried to starve them by removing all zoo in my tank for at least 6mths...but they still persist....

Yeah, on my poor zoos.. Mine is the maned nudibranch. Apparently their diet is sea anemones, with a preference for the Frilled Anemone. I have none of those in my tank but you never know if they take a sudden liking to my zoos or mushrooms. Plus, I have two maned nudibranch in my tank and I guess those eggs must be theirs. And knowing that nudibranch are hermaphrodites, any two can lay more eggs..

Am now thinking of removing the nudibranch. One is stuck on the glass and another is in hiding.

I think most saltwater invertebrates cannot tolerate freshwater soaking... depending on body structure, they will explode... the eggs won't be hurt?

Nope the egg wun be hurt..... that what i read from RC but the adult is very sensitive to FW... a slight dip and they will all drop off
