hey.. a few questions to ask regarding the new sunny..

as most would know, this car drinks petrol like an SUV but i've heard.. or read in forums around that a few additions and mods to the car would help it ease the petrol consumption like a fuel broquet and the much hyped about K&N air filter that shops usually, if not all the time promote.. <_<

the problem is, my dad got the car from tan chong and they would be the ones doing all the servicing for a full 3 years and he is wondering if by adding all this mods, would the car still be under warranty for the full 3 years ( i can't remember if it was 3 or 5 years)

hmmm any1 can recommend places to fit these accesories, namely the broquet and the air filter.. and if they REALLY do work in reducing petrol consumption.

my dad drives.. s-l-o-w so it's not his driving habits but i'm not that slow a person  so im rather worried :P

maybe the price of a good broquet could also be stated coz i asked around and a shop in bukit merah quoted me almost 1K for a german "very good one" broquet.. :eyeblur:

TIA!

whereas the previous corona managed close to 500km maybe even 550km with more expressway driving..

k n n air filter can be found in many places. can get some cheaper ones from pple selling in those car forums.. some offer packages together with the cleaning kit.

as for warranty issues, shldnt be a prob as its just a air filter which can be replaced anytime.. :)

Changing the followings will not void warranty

1. K&N Air Filter

2. Grounding

3. Voltage Stabilizers

4. Impedence Stabilizer

5. CAI

6. In-Line Broquet

7. Denso Iridium Spark Plug

BTW, How many litres is for a full tank Nissan Sunny?

bro...

1st of all...

how old is the sunny now?

has it been run in?

cars that have not been run in will usually have a higher petrol comsumption.

once u finish the run in period, monitor the petrol again. should be reasonable liaoz.

regarding modifications on ur new car...

i'll recommend the following,

Do not have a technician other than TC's to do the modification for you...even if its for a *expletive* air filter, CAI, grounding cables etc.

If in the worst case scenario, your ECU ###### up or ur engine piangz, they will most likely to find fault in the mods that u have done to ur car. eg : CAI and *expletive* mess up the air flow, ###### up the Air/Fuel ratio....grounding cables not fixed properly, short circuit etc etc. SO if its been done by the TC ppl, they will have nothing to say. but remember to keep the receipt.

IMO, dun do any modifications to your car until the warranty expires, as to the fuel comsumption, monitor the car after run in...

if its already being runned in...the next best way to improve fuel comsumption, is to have a lighter right foot

Disclaimer : I have never dealt with TC motors before, only Motor Image...but since Motor Image is a subsidiary of TC...i suppose they have the same SOP.

Ok the rule is as such. U can mod anything but if your mod causes something to fail, then the warranty will void for the affected part only.

Have been serviced by Tan Chong for so almost 7 years liao. So far I think they didn't change this rules.

Also, if your cars maintenance/servicing are done by them from start till now. They will be happy to replace anything for u FOC if the part is not known for wear n tear, or damaged.

But my experience to share in regards to those "fuel saving" gadgets. They do show improvement in the beginning, but once the ECU plus the driver adapted/get use to the changes, sooner the effect will lost.

Cheers!

Is Nissan Sunny really "drink" so much petrol. My 6 months old sunny can run 550km for full tank. Maybe I am more on expressway driving than city driving.

Again, I think driving habit also play important role in fuel consumption rate. Try to avoid hard acceleration. ;)

hey thanks for all the replies eh.. ;)

hmm my dad weighs 100kg and has a 1pound right foot only.. even i know how softly he accelerates!:lol:

in light of diabolus' questions, yea it's been run in.. maybe 4 mths old.. arnd there la rough estimate SFJ plate btw..

there is a significant drop in consumption since the running in period la actually.. during the 1st 5k KM, it could go around 350km for a full tank! my bike even could do more than that! :erm:

hmmm so even if i mod FROM TC Motors, their stuff is not under warranty?

Everything u get from TC should be under warranty....but they do take into account of everyday wear and tear.

mods should be done by them too...next time go servicing, talk to their service manager, ask him if they do installation for K&N,CAI and such...

pros: u get limited warranty if anything happens to the car.

cons: u pay more.
