Hi!

Just gotten hold of 2 unused Intel CPU cooler fans.

I'm thinking of reusing them as cooler fans for my marine tank (what to do? I'm poor man son). :pinch:

Has anyone done this before? Or know where I can get "inspiration"? (I did a search online but I only found articles related to computer cooling).

Any advise would be appreciated (except those asking me to buy chiller) :D

Thanks!!!

i dun tink CPU fans can serve u well... or r u tokking bout the larger fans meant for the CPU casing?

I'm talking about those fan used for blowing the CPU chip heatsink.

My idea is to do a nano-reef tank, and these small fans seems like a good idea.

I appreciate everyone's kind replies but no links to get "inspiration" leh.

On a sidenote; I just came back from HK and I bought a Jaebao(sp??) 2 head cooling fan unit.

I used it to cool my 3X1.5X1.5 feet; daytime I'm getting temp of 27 degrees! Night time I could get as low as 26 degrees!

Its my first time using fans to cool marine tank; it works well (so far) and I guess its a "sign" when I got the freebie Intel CPU fan to try it on a nano-reef (future project).

Think I'll go SLS to get the materials for my DIY fan this week.

Cheers!

I ripped the DC fan off the PSU of an old computer, connected it to a 12V AC/DC adapter (cheapest I could find was abt $6), screwed it into the middle of 2 parallelly-placed wire casings, and then placed the whole set-up across my 3-ft aquarium...

it maintains the temp very well, but evaporation is fast, and water hardness is phenomenal.
