As of above,is there any method to cure it.my tank is just 2 months .Should i get a better skimmer.

i am currently using a wet & dry filter,the kind that is on top of the tank.my nitrates is 100mg/l,using a tetratest,very red.

replace all filter wool, rinse bio-ball/bio-ring and 20-30% water change every few days. Siphon sandbed if there are detritus. Reduce the feeding amount.

Get some live sand from reefer(s) out there or buy packet(s) of live sand.

thanks all for your concern,i am currently using an air driven china brand skimmer,should i upgrade to a macro.if i upgrade would the skimmer help me remove more n03.

Hi Bro,

U should try using the Salifert test kit, they r the best and accurate.

Macro skimmer is good and affordable.

I can understand, but those test kits r inaccurate, and u waste money for nothing, it's better to spend more and do it rite on the first time.

Btw this hobby is expensive, since u started liao and there is no turning back untill u give up this hobby!!

get a gd skimmer

DO NOT overstock

do not overfeed

since u r using a trickle system, be sure to siphon trapped/settled detritus...

btw, do not expect ur nitrate to decrease immediately.... it cld take few months

do not spend money on live sands... they wont help unless u r using DSB/plenum... otherwise, those anaerobic bacteria will become aerobic, thus defeat the purpose...

Cheapest method removing nitrate is to do partial water changes regularly

Air driven skimmer is not good enuff, u can ask for a Christmas gift to get a ASP200 or 350 haha

for me got myself a gift, a H & S heheheh love it a lot

purchase soft corals such as 'leather'. read that they thrive on nitrates, thus bringing nitrate levels down.

i was wondering if we can add more macroalgae in the main tank (assuming no sump or dsb) and let the macroalgae feed on the nitrates, then trim them for nitrate export... just like the refugium way... will it work?

Your tank will look like a FW planted instead, well at least that's the main goal of reefkeeping back a few years ago

just added one to the tank,quite near strong current,now the strands start to fall off,aiyah headache.
