Yo everybody! Thx for checking this thread out. Got a situation,hope ou guys can help. Goes like this: Got a 2xFL housing for my 30"x15"x15" tank. want to keep mainly LPS,got 4xmini-fan set blowing at my tank. To upgrade to 4xT5 costs $300+. With that cost,i believe should be able to get a 150w MH+PL actinic set(right?). But concern is will Temp rise out of control,no chiller. Pls advise. Thx!!

If no chiller, my advice is go for the T5s. T5 tubes prices has drop drastically making them more viable for reefing especially if you are intending to keep LPS.

However, without chiller, you have to ventilate your tank top properly to achieve the temperature required coz T5s can heat up your water though not as much as MH.

If you don't have space constraint, buy the one from untouchables. His is DIY with 6 tubes of 3' T5. Very well done and you save $50/-.

I see... If i get those hanging type one and suspend it 1/2 feet above water and blow a fan at the light-spot,how much temp increase will it cause? Love ripple effect..haha. Thx a million!

u might consider this...

if u wan cheap MH, get those victron type... but need self DIYing to hang them

You will still get repple effects depending on how your powerhead flow. Bounce the water from the tank water and you will get nice ripple effect.

R u using those 4in roll dc fan?if so dont think thats enough to bring down the temp.At least get a 1 4inchs ac fan to do the job.
