How high should T5s be placed above the water?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of adding a pair of T5s to supplement my MH... how far above the water should I place the T5s? My MH bulb is now approx 1.5ft above the water...

but hot it's. I place my 6x T5 2 1/2" from water. It;s produce heat worse than my 2x150w MH.

does the heat come from the tubes or the ballast?

i think frm the tube,the ballast is electronic so does not produce so much heat.jus my 2 cents

the heat are produce from the bulbs n not the eballast.....unless u are using those magnetic ballast

t5 do produce heat but not as hot as the MH.....so, dont think that when u run the t5s, they dont contribute any heat.....

BTW, is the T5 tube hot enough to melt plastic? Eg. a plastic zip tie?

I just realised the clip for the tube is also plastic.. so should be no problem...
