Fish that can take out Bristle worm

Recommended Posts

Was looking into my tank at night after feeding, found bristle worms wriggling out of my rock works all over the place, my rocks are infested with these worms - ,

Need some help on getting fish that eat bristle worms but leave shrimps and hermit crabs alone. - Does anyone know which fish fits the criteria.

My last option would be to take the smaller shrimps and crabs out and put in a six line wrasse but i think it doesn't take out the bigger worms.....

I've had experienced having small hermit crabs with six line wrasse and the hermits kept reducing in numbers, also same for the sps crabs, without

the six line, all crabs are accounted for........dont think i want to introduce Trigger, i saw them attack smaller fishes before and it's a sight that i dont want to remember......

Maybe you want to search the dottyfamily - looks like there is alot of non-bristle-worm friendly.

I have 2 dotty - orchid dotty and sun-rise dotty. So far my worms not as many as you have described. But on the other hand - I am also not sure how good these guys are becasue i have never see them eating bristle-worms <_<

Bro, those are the two dotty species that are good for controling brostle worms and yet safe enough for most other inverts. ;)

I am looking out for an orchid too.

Try boxer shrimp

Didn't know that boxer will take out Bristle worm, maybe they do but may not be as effective as fish.......i only know that arrow crab also may do the job but they can be a victim to the worm if the worm is big.....-Thanks

Jim,

Got the wrong wrasse ... it is a yellow-tail wrasse ... actually wanted to go back to xchange for a leopard but drop the idea because this guy is quite interesting to watch ... it is very small fish ...about a fifth of the size of most of my fishes and yet this guy always swim in the open ..only in the night it hides amongst the rocks ... it jump out once into my overflow ... managed to grap it back to the main tank....now it is happy again..... probably once bitten twice shy .... ...But learned that this guy is a high maintenace fish .. so keeping my fingers cross...

Gouldian,

Orchid dotty sound like very difficult to find ....i am looking to get another 2 more if there is any ... threesome sounds more exciting

Let me know if you find any.

erm.. why not leave the worms where they are? They don't attack anything alive (at least not that I know off) so in fact they help to clean your tank and that's a good thing...

I am ok if there are not too many but i know they multiply fast (really fast) and i see many of them, in need for some control measures.....also i personally dont feel that they are safe for some corals.....just a personal feeling.... ;)

Why do you want to eliminate the bristle... They are excellent dertivore or scavenger....

Anyway sunrise may attack shrimp if if gets large enough.... Actually no dotty is safe but because of the max size of orchid dotty(ard 5-7cm if not wrong) it makes it safe with most shrimp... But very small shrimp like bumble bee, ###### shrimp may be attack by it too.....

Oh ya dotty can only take out small bristle(those are the one youshould have or keep) but not big giant kind(for me is ok but some ppl find too big and eerie so take them out)

Think they are having orgy inside my live rocks, seems to be getting more and more of them, putting some control to their infestation, not really meant to iradicate but control is the key.....thanks for the advice - I've got 2 cleaner shrimps which are like 3" and ard 6 hermit crabs, 4-5 sps crabs - the hermit/sps crabs are quite small ard 0.5cm-1 cm they are the ones that i am kindof worried about.(if i put a wrasse in).....if the orchid dotty can leave them alone -then it will be perfect.....

ML brings in orchid quite often, will let you guys know if I spotted any. From what I know orchid are pretty safe with ###### and arrow shrimp - check out henry's display.

But do not confused orchid with magenta, magenta are known to be more aggressive.

Daibolous: Haven't leh, must see your specimen first. But from your pix - superb! Hope to get my hands on one. ;)

Actaully, Dispar is quite right here too, I myself am not too concern with bristle worms unless they start to multiply out of proportion. ;)

What I am worried is the Fireworms or flatworms. For Flatworms there is still a certain Nudibrach that will eat them or we can use Flatworm Exit from Salifert. But for Fireworms, "jiak lat" liao! :(
